I started my MN life with a thread about how irritating it is when folk park in P+C spaces whn they don't actually need to, I got a full verbal flaming, lesson learned! It still fucks me off by the way but I've learned to whinge to myself .

yama · 02/05/2009 10:57

£70? That's not steep, it's effing vertical!

JackBauerkillspigs · 02/05/2009 10:59

I'm genuinely torn between laughing at her being so outraged when her child is 9! and thinking £70!

I once had a ticket from that car park saying I had been there 5 hours, luckily I had a receipt from another shop showing I had been 2 miles away 2 hours before.....

The Tesco i used to shop in used to give you a £50 ticket if you parked in their P + T spaces without one of their permits ( free from instore ) which was valid until your childs 5th birthday.

Horrah for Tesco they should roll this out across the country

ihavenewsockson · 02/05/2009 11:19

great idea!

will the £70 go back into BOGOF offers?

PM73 · 02/05/2009 11:19

I think they allow up to 12yrs old in ASDA,could be wrong though.

I remember struggling myself in our local TESCO for a m&b space, couldnt find one so had to park in a normal one.I really struggled to get my ds out of his seat,he was about 10weeks old at the time.

When i was walking past the section of m&b spaces i saw a middle aged bald man leaving his sporty car,no baby or child in sight,it was pissing down & i was fuming,so i shouted over to him that he had parked in the m&b spaces,he just shrugged his shoulders & said its raining & they are nearer,so i shouted back,oh yes cos you dont want your hair to go frizzy do you?.

He never moved his car but i felt better for saying something to him.

vjg13 · 02/05/2009 11:20

Wonder if they have a similar fine for parking in a disabled spot without a blue badge which is more important.

LOL about the angry Mum with a 9 year old!!

Eve4Walle · 02/05/2009 11:26

Why would she need to park there with a 9 year old? That's a lot of money though...

sweetnitanitro · 02/05/2009 11:37

lmao! £70 is a lot of money but did she really think the spaces are meant for parents with 9 year olds?

JackBauerkillspigs · 02/05/2009 11:45

It isn't tesco that run the carpark though (as I was told in no uncertain terms) its another firm who they hire just to patrol carparks with a flat 'you screwed up ' £70 fine.
and I have seen plenty of parking tickets on cars in disabled bays with no badge as well, but never in the P+T.
It's still amusing me!

Tesco near me has written on the signs that they are for children up to 5 years old, so how did she not know? Mind you, when me and DP complained to them when DS1 was a baby about never being able to get a space they told us there was nothing they could do about it as it wasnt illegal, so they couldn't hand out fines!

SoupDragon · 02/05/2009 11:49

Serves her right. Silly mare. It's blimmin obvious you don't need the P&T spot with a 9 year old.

ruthosaurus · 02/05/2009 11:52

I wasn't sure whether you are allowed to use them when you are 8.5 months pg and can't walk far due to joint problems. DH thought probably not and wouldn't let me, which I thought was unreasonable. Now being in the position of wanting a big space to wrangle 6mo DS in I am still unsure about this. All I knew at that time was that I very nearly a P&C and that my pelvis was knackered.

Not so much about P&T but I was fairly annoyed yesterday when a car parked so close to me that I couldn't put my charge in her car seat had to go in from the other side (she's 16mos) but I noticed said car merely had a booster seat, so their child could have quite easily jumped out the other side.

Moosy · 02/05/2009 12:16

It's time for my favourite picture - I took this in my local Asda carpark last year. The carpark boy did look a bit nervous at going off to find the perpetrator!

IneedAbetterNickname · 02/05/2009 12:18

Wow Moosy, that biker sure had some nerve!!

However, the rainbow on the floor is so cool!! I love getting pics like that!

3cutedarlings · 02/05/2009 12:18

It always amazes how people think they have god given right to these spots!! yes they make life a little easier, but there is never going to be enough to go round.

tbh i cant see why they need to be near the door!! i personally think all you need is to be near a foot path preferably in a quite part of the car park and if that the furthest away from the door!! so what.

But to think you need one with a 9YO WTF!! that all about then??

There are only a dozen or so P&T spots at my local supermarket and i think i can count on one hand how many times ive managed to get one, and i have 9wks old baby a 4YO and a 6YO who has ASD!!. tbh if id have seen her parking there or the bold headed man i would have been pissed but life to short to stress about these thing IMO.

KingCanuteIAm · 02/05/2009 12:29

Around us all the P&T spaces now display a sign saying they for use by those with children under 12. THere are no warnings for fines though so I suppose they cannot enforce it!

lizziemun · 02/05/2009 13:07

I can remember joining tesco 'baby club' when i had dd1 and their policy clearly states P&T places were for parents with children under 5yrs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2009 13:11

tceh - she is a mum with a child

but on the other hand he was 9

wtf would you park in a M&T space with a 9yr old?

its a harsh fine, and unless there are signs stating 5 and under, then she shouldnt have to pay

wotulookinat · 02/05/2009 13:18

I knew Tesco p&t spaces were for under 5 year olds - I have one of their free permit thingies too.
She was taking the pee a bit with a nine year old so will have to pay up.

KingCanuteIAm · 02/05/2009 13:20

It is Tesco where I first saw the 12yo sign on the P&T spaces.. Honestly!

I am wondering if I should go and take a photo of it for you all!
