To think that it's wrong to name people diagnosed with swine flu as it makes them sound likecriminals?

Every time I hear of someone in the UK being diagnosed with swine flu, the newsreader says "they have been named as xxx." Wtf do we need to know? It just makes them sound like criminals, or as if they are being labelled in some way.

Papers are making them out to be social outcasts .
As if they are the "unclean", paint their door with a red cross......give me strenght.

LadyAga · 01/05/2009 16:26

I agree, it's a pisser to catch swine flu in the first place let alone have it reported nationally.

Whatever happened to medical in confidence?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 01/05/2009 16:27

I also agree. I know it's important for people who have been near them to know but there's limits.

Sassybeast · 01/05/2009 16:37

The Scottish couple are pictured in the tablod trash today after leaving hospital. They don't look too bothered tbh.

memoo · 01/05/2009 17:03

the scottish couple have signed with Max Clifford to sell their story!!

memoo · 01/05/2009 17:04

Niftyblue · 01/05/2009 17:06

Totally agree
its wrong that they are named
People don`t forget and its as if they are outcasts

daftpunk · 01/05/2009 17:06

i'd want to know who had it so i could keep away from them.

wannaBe · 01/05/2009 17:17

sell their story? wtf is there to tell?

OP posts:
pointydog · 01/05/2009 17:17

I don't think it makes them sound like criminals at all.

They will make a fortune from selling their story.

young couple, on honeymoon, first british couple to get the pig lurgy. Tabloids will be able to write loads on that

FAQinglovely · 01/05/2009 17:19

I have to say I'd usually agree - but when you're trying to contain a pandemic I think it does help, especially if ou're been in contact with the person that's got it, but hadn't realised.

Ie - it might not be someone you speak to regularly so may not hear that they've had their flu confirmed as swine flu so may not be as alert to your own symptoms if you should get it

ooooooooooooooo a pig flew past my window - wonder if something unbelievable happened or whether it's got a cough

daftpunk · 01/05/2009 17:21

exactly FAQ, they have to be named, it would be completely reckless not to.

pointydog · 01/05/2009 17:37

My mum has left her daily mail (scottish version) with me. The front page is all about the scottish honeymooners - lol.
