To cut my neighbours lawn

Ok so i finally tamed the rainforest that was my front lawn, cut out a border and planted some cute little pansies

The lawn just to the left of my house is technically my neigbours but half of it is outside my front door.

Its still in the rainforest state and i was gonna cut it, but as she is now away for a week and i cant ask her permission, i was wondering if

a) she would think "cheeky bitch, cutting my lawn, who the hell does she think she is!!"

or

b) "thank god she took the hint and cut back that ingrowing menace!"

Over to you!

Are you friendly with her?

Sassybeast · 01/05/2009 15:51

If it was me I'd be b)! When you've done hers can you nip over here and do mine?

giddykipper · 01/05/2009 15:52

If it were me, I'd think (a), but I have a very strained relationship with my neighbour. She has cut my hedge before (it didn't need doing, it just wasn't as short as she thought it should be) and put an invoice through the letterbox for her time!

shinyshoes · 01/05/2009 15:58

I've cut my neighbours lawn before whilst I was doing my own, I would have done the whole street I was really into it

I've never done it since though and he's never done ours.

I'd just assume it was b)

Fizzylemonade · 01/05/2009 16:00

I'd say cut it, nice friendly gesture, I had weird neighbour who cut his lawn twice or three times a week and he also used to cut mine too, I never asked him and we did cut ours ourselves.

It was weird because I would just hear the lawn mower and then he would appear right outside my lounge window and he would mow towards the window and stare in at me, sometimes at 9am on a saturday, pre-kids so I was in my dressing gown drinking tea

We asked him freaky peeping man to stop doing it in the end.

MaureenMLove · 01/05/2009 16:03

Depends how friendly you are with your neighbours. I think I'd do it, but then I socialize with my neighbours, so it'd just be the done thing.

Why don't you do it and stick a note through her door, so that's the first thing she sees when she gets home?

PuppyMonkey · 01/05/2009 16:06

I think I'd cut it... but then leave a little note posted through their door and explain that you only did it because you were doing yours anyway and you hope she isn't offended and, hey, do come round for a cuppa and tell me all about the holiday!

FatFree · 01/05/2009 16:07

She only moved in about 7 months ago and she seems nice enough. Her daughter has played with my kids out the front and we've chit chatted.

I dont really think she'd mind, i know if it was me i'd be eternally gratefull cos it was a serious pita to do my own!

I'd cut it

ninah · 01/05/2009 16:11

I'd do as puppy monkey says
I do my neighbour's but she's 97

bigchris · 01/05/2009 16:13

yes cut it and put the note through the door
she might expect you to do it all the time thogh so be prepared!

ihearthuckabees · 01/05/2009 16:17

If it was me, I wouldn't cut it without asking her. People can be very funny about others interfering with their land, even if they hate gardening, and live in a complete dump.

Waiting a week isn't the end of the world, and your grass might need another trim by then, so you can ask her if she wants her bit doing then.
