No it is only a bit of fun and a way of bonding.

Yes you are sexualising her and it looks tacky.

I don't care each to their own.

(summing up fpr ya! )

SuperBunny · 30/04/2009 01:07

Slur's right.

If DS asks, I do his toenails - usually only one but whatever he wants. Who cares? He likes it and I'm not bothered.

thirtypence · 30/04/2009 01:12

I say - it's something adults do - when you are older you can do it too.

My mum used to say this about shoes - when I wanted more than just a pair of trainers and a pair of clarks.

S1ur · 30/04/2009 01:15

Oh yeah 30p - I say that about staying up late and beer.

babymt · 30/04/2009 03:36

I wondered this when my dd's wanted their toes painted last summer when I did my own. I decided that it was fine and only a bit of fun. It was only light shades and one layer so it rubbed off fairly quickly.

They were 1.5 and 3.5 then. Dunno how old yours is?

I think the idea that is sexualising them is ridiculous tbh. Its nail varnish not a bra, hot pants and high heels! But everyones entitled to their own opinions.

junglist1 · 30/04/2009 07:18

Don't worry about it. I don't think it's sexualising either. Nobody will even see it really.

flamingobingo · 30/04/2009 07:24

Yes, do it - and then buy them some blue or green or other random colour nail polish for next time if you don't like the idea of it looking too grown up.

JeanPoole · 30/04/2009 09:37

well i just got her some new sandals, so i guess people would see it.
shes nearly 2.

I paint my dd's all the time. They are 4.8 and 2.8. Nowt wrong with it unless you are thinking a fake bake would look nice with the nails

Ds (then 3) did his own while I was in the bath once because I refused to do his and popped his socks back on before I could see!!

They see you doing it - it'll do them no harm and it's a nice little thing to do together - not so keen on fingers though for littlies however ds (now 6) did go to school with bright red talons for Red Nose Day!!

My 3yo twin sisters love havng their nails done!

They like doing fingers and toes, my mum does hers and they sit either trying to do each others or waiting for my mum to d it LOL.

Not sexualising but I could see the point if you were doing it if she was'nt bothered just because she's a girl kind of thing but no go ahead and have a pampering session

NotPlayingAnyMore · 30/04/2009 09:58

My DS requests his toes and fingers done, each digit a different colour I do them but only in school holidays!

slug · 30/04/2009 09:58

DD has her own bottle of sparkly pink nailpolish. I'll put it on her for holidays and parties. I don't wear the stuff myself because I have an allergy to it, but as she draws on herself a lot [sigh] at least with nailpolish I know it's easy to take off.

KingCanuteIAm · 30/04/2009 09:59

With mine I do it if they ask (good bonding opportunity) and don't if they don't. It is not sexualising, it is nail varnish not suspenders and a padded bra. A one off is very different to a regime. If you were booking her a set of nail appointments then it would be very different.

Some people will think it is tacky and judge, but hey, if it keeps them happy till they get a real hobby then whatever!

KingCanuteIAm · 30/04/2009 10:00

Jean, you like AIBU don't you? You must have a death wish strong personality

JeanPoole · 30/04/2009 10:01

oh thanks

not heard jmo before.

I don't wear make up so I have never had this problem of dd wanting to put some on because I have put some on, but my dd is now 9 and enjoys a bit of make up from time to time and I have bought her some bits which she can put on when she wants (though not on school days as it is not allowed).

So what I am trying to say is, I am not a make up fan but even I allow my dd to wear it and don't see it as sexualising her.

That said, I think your dd is too young at 2, and if I saw her walking around with open toed sandals and painted nails, I would privately disapprove. But you do what you think is right.

Pawslikepaddington · 30/04/2009 10:06

DD has her own nail polish . She got it for xmas-it is purple, green and yellow or something and made by Jelly Belly and comes off really easily. She is 5, but I used to do hers a light pink every so often when she was little-I always do my nails and it is a good fun girly giggle thing to do. Now she has her own she never wants her nails painting any more, so if you don't like doing it that may be the thing to do-he he!

MammaTiggy · 30/04/2009 13:57

mine do wear nail varnish on toes occasionally, its just for fun really.

dd1 (3 and a half) got a childrens make up set for xmas from one of our friends and she loves to play with that, its got little blushers in and things but they are so faint that you can hardly tell if shes got them on actually, but she likes to play with it sometimes.

i dont really see a problem with it, they want to copy their mums dont they, its not really much different to them playing with little toy hoovers and pretending to hoover and so on is it?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 30/04/2009 14:11

DD1 has about 50 different bottles of nail varnish. She is 11.

DD2 has 4 bottles of nail varnish. She is 4. She adores having her fingernails and toenails painted.

I, BTW, never wear nail varnish and don't think I even have some so I am a bit about where the love of it comes from with my 2.

I do have approximately 50 lipglosses and eyeshadows though. And I let DD2 have lipgloss on sometimes.

FFS it's a form of dressing up, she's not selling her soul to the Devil or doing it for the boys (they all smell and are silly, apparently).
