Never would I consider saying "oh that doesn't suit you, I don't like it at all, what a mistake, much better how it was"

to her

I have no idea why she thinks it is ok to say this to me?

Can I tell her she looks like shit today? She does.

I would politely (because you really don't want to stoop to her level)say something like:

"Look, I suppose it is difficult for the elderly to make sense of the fashion nowadays !I'm dreading being like that myself!"

Hopefully will put paid to anymore criticism!
