my mum gave it to me when i had my own house

our family had had it since i was 6

it was bought for me to learn to play, which i did for 6 years.

i have now not played for nearly 20 years but i could if i wanted to IYSWIM

i do not play as i have 1000000 other things to do, in the event of to 1000000 other things ever being done then it would be quite nice to take it up again

i have no intention of getting any of the dcs to leanr to play it

we do not really have space for it and it is just gathering dust and looking untidy

i think my mum would be quite pissed off if i did get rid of it

i cannot give it back to her as she already has one...

whaddya think then?

why don't you want your children to learn to play?

it's a fantastic advantage to have

yabu!

No, IMO YANBU. I bought a piano about 5 yrs ago, don't play, never will, never had it tuned, takes up space in my sitting room that I could really do with but refuse to get rid of it because I had to pay a fortune to specialist removal company to move it here when we moved. I would like the kids to learn to play but am not even sure if it works and am too skint to find out. Sometimes I just want to chop it up for firewood

because they are currently not interested and prefer other hobbies. i would rather they kept up with their current hobbies as in order for them to take up piano they would have to give up something.

plus theyhave never mentioned it.

i expect i am BU - i don't think i really want to get rid of it but it really does take up space and gather dust

thats the trouble. i do feel sentimental about it...

if my mum hadn't given it to me i would never ever have bought a piano for myself!

is there anyone else in your family who would like it?

it just seems such a shame somehow!

no-one else in family plays or has space for it (i lke your name MitchyInge but it does make me feel all twitchy when i read it...)

i SWYM, i think shineon, about it being an advantage, certainly i think being able to read music is useful and tbh as i learnt so young can't imagine not being able to do it or learning how to do it, but i do think if you want to be any good at an instrument you have to practice. i hated practicing and was forced to do it so am not anxious to have the same battles with the dcs...

oooh i have piano issues, someon get me a couch to lie on!

I think I'm just a bit jealous, our instruments are all tatty old secondhand things and not much loved family heirlooms at all. You're probably not BU if you give it to ME?

shootfromthehip · 26/04/2009 12:46

Mitchy, you can have mine if I ever get over the guilt of having bought the f'ing thing and never tuned it... FGS I've got piano ishoos too!

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 26/04/2009 12:47

GIVE IT TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 26/04/2009 12:47

PLEEEEEEASE

MayorNaze · 26/04/2009 12:47

oh ours is a tatty secondhand one! it was when my mum bought it umpteen years ago!

if you are in wiltshire and can collect it then you can have it (though am still undecided - aaaagggghhhhh)!!!!!

We freecycled ours earlier this year because it took up so much space in our tiny house that we had nowhere to sit!

we were absolutely inundated with offers for it.
