And not be called a "girl"? I like lager and lime. And cider and black. So shoot me.

According to everyone I know who has tried it, it's good and goes down very easily.

notnowbernard · 24/04/2009 23:34

My Chekov experience was aged 15

On a beach

Me and friend had 1/2 bottle each

I puked. Everywhere

Boy I fancied at the time laid in my vomit (unaware) in his new suede jacket

fryalot · 24/04/2009 23:34

pear cider is not as sweet as apple cider.

I'm not much of a fan of cider myself, but I would rather drink the pear stuff than the apple stuff

BigBellasBeerBelly · 24/04/2009 23:35

Pear cider is very nice.

Like perry. In fact very like perry. Given that is nearly what it is!

fryalot · 24/04/2009 23:38

perry is cider made with pears, BBBB

tigerdriver · 24/04/2009 23:38

best drink of all: ginger beer shandy. Ie half a pint of beer, half a pint of ginger beer. Heaven on a hot day after a long walk.

And,er, pear cider is perry. nectar. but v acchlohic

fryalot · 24/04/2009 23:39

hey, I'll have a babycham

muggglewump · 24/04/2009 23:39

Oh I love lager and lime, but lime juice from limes, as opposed to cordial.
I got into it when I was in Asia where they drink it.
Admittedly I don't have a sweet tooth but if you like it then why not

I saw a woman in Asda today buying two bottles of Smartprice Cider and a bottle of port. I could almost taste the hangover.
Now that's not a good idea.
Lager and lime is fine!

wheresclaire · 24/04/2009 23:43

Oooh will be trying a ginger beer shandy. Sounds lovely, especially if you get that burn like with ginger wine? Im so glad Im not the only "girl" here. I feel so 1980's asking for a malibu in the pub!

go for a 10 mile hike. Find a pub. Ask for ginger beer shandy. After bar staff (not always Aussie) have poured you a pint of lemonade and ginger ale (why?), remind them that you have asked for ginger beer shandy, which is half a pint of bitter and half a pint of g beer (not ale). it looks a bit suspiciously cloudy. but enjoy, it's like shandy, an underrated drink IMO, but nicer.

harleyd · 24/04/2009 23:50

omg lager n lime is rank!

tigerdriver · 24/04/2009 23:51

harley, what about cider n black? yeeeuch

nappyaddict · 24/04/2009 23:52

i never quite understand the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer.

harleyd · 24/04/2009 23:53

no way!
its a waste of a good drink to add crap to it

Thunderduck · 24/04/2009 23:56

Ginger beer has a far stronger ginger taste, and is much nicer imho. I know that much.

tigerdriver · 24/04/2009 23:56

ginger ale is what some americans drink with their whisky. It's a tonic water type mixer, very dry, you'd never drink it on it's own. It is the colour of a dehydrated tramp's wee.

ginger beer is a fizzy drink like lemonade. It tastes of ginger. It's cloudy and sort of white like "proper" lemonade. You drink it in pints or half pints not mixer bottles or those little tiny cans.

Suggest you go to a good pub and ask for one of each

Thunderduck · 24/04/2009 23:58

LOL. I occasionally drink ginger ale on it's own.

harleyd · 24/04/2009 23:59

someone gave me a whisky with ginger ale in it recently...have to say it was pretty good..although in hindsight the state i was in at the time slops through a dirty sock would probably have tasted pretty good

tigerdriver · 25/04/2009 00:00

thunderduck

Bet the tramps have to watch out round your way then

Thunderduck · 25/04/2009 00:04

Eeew LMAO.

nappyaddict · 25/04/2009 00:04

Lol I don't think I explained myself very well. I know the difference in taste cos I have had both but what's the difference between the ale and beer part in the name iyswim.

midlandsmumof4 · 25/04/2009 00:08

God-lager & lime was the first drink I tried in a pub cos in the early 70's it was THE drink for 'girls'-pint of course which was very much frowned upon Also vodka & lime if you fancied something stronger . Cider & black-good. Cider is still my fave drink if I'm in the house although without the black (as long as its not ASDA cider. Unpleasant side effect). Still find Snakebite pretty lethal. Worst drink ever-Breaker Malt Liquor-yeuk!!!!!!

tigerdriver · 25/04/2009 00:16

midlands mum, don't you mean Barley Ale. A complete show stopper in every sense of the word!

nappy - the ale one is the tramps pee. the beer one is the cloudy one. Proper ginger beer is minutely (like Caliber) alcohoic. about 0.005%. Ginger ale is just a colour and a flavour.

lottiebunny · 25/04/2009 00:24

The CAMRA member in me wants to point out that not all ale is darker than lager. You can get some nice blonde beers you know.

Thunderduck · 25/04/2009 00:24

I'm craving ginger beer now thanks to you ladies, and the shops are shut.
