Would you have been offended by this silly name?

My son calls my friend (well, boyfriend I suppose) "Wallace" because he looks a bit like the character from wallace and grommit.

I saw him today and was in one of those daft moods and called him Wallace. (kids were not around) He did laugh but in a "oh god, not you too" kind of way and he went a bit quiet have I offended him? would you be offended?

Feel really guilty now see I don't get offended over stuff like that so it never occured to me that he could get upset over it.

I'll have to apologise.

Would you ike to be told you look like this? If he likes playdough then fair enough, if not then, yes I think he may be offended.

You need to do some bridge building IMO.

Yes he found it offensive but you didn't expect him to so don't beat yourself up about it. Just don't do it again.

I prfr Gromit myself. The silent, helpful and switched on type rather then the thicko. No one wants to be Wallace, 2p short of a £ hey!

pmsl mrsweasley - ah, that pic was taken during one of our "wool sorting" times, a regular saturday night in our house. If you look closely, you can see the immense concentration in our squishy faces!

My friend's 16 month old son looks like Boris Johnson. She really doesn't like this fact being pointed out. Problem is every time my DH talks to her he says "How's little Boris then?" thinking he's being really funny and original. Makes me cringe!

When I was a teenager we called a very good family friend Wallace because he also looks really like him...

We even left Wendsleydale on his doorstep and then he wrote a thank you letter from Wallace in the style the real Wallace would have written a thank you letter in!!!

Fast forward ten years - For his 60th birthday his wife organised a Wallace and Gromit cake for him to honour the joke. He kept the characters ontop and when my dd was born he gave them to her to continue the joke into the next generation. She was at that "put everything in mouth" stage and immediately bit off Wallace's ear - oh how we laughed!!!!

Moral of the story - If you keep the joke going long enough I am sure he will be laughing at you laughing at him...

ineedalifelaundry - that is so so funny - we called my dd Boris from aged 12 months - to 24 months due to an amazing likeness at this period of her life!!!!

LoveMySorrow- depends on how old your friend is. If he's over 50 (nearer 60) then it may be not so much of a problem if he does actually resemble Wallace . If he's a lot younger then maybe he's entitled to be annoyed. How would you like to be called 'Norah Batty' for instance if you only looked a bit like her .

I think it depends on the way it is said and why it is said!

"The kids call you Wallace bcause they love Wallace and Gromit! I think it is rather sweet, don't you?"

Might just be a good thing to drop into the converation....

Before you know it you will be baking Wallace and Gromit cake.... tee hee hee!!!!

wallace is modeled from my english teacher mr Kelly as nick park went to my school
its really funny watching it as it is so like Mr Kelly haha

sounds to me your boyfriend is pissed off with the name and prob gets very annoyed that your son calls him that - but is too polite to say dont call me that - iykwim
