racist remarks in front of kids

Today at school I was chatting to one of the other mums who was telling me about a row she'd had with another woman, then in front of my kids said she called her a black bitch!!!
I told her to leave it, not wanting to draw my kids attention to what she'd just said. This may be normal to her, but I'm VERY pissed off that my 2 have now been introduced to this sort of crap.She told me after she doesn't hate anyone, I replied that she obviously sees colour, and has no excuse for this (we live in a very multicultural part of London). Now what do I do? What do I say to my children? I can't believe another adult thinks it's ok to do this, she even knows my godchildren are black FFS

I think it's inexcusable and there's nothing wrong with asking this other mum to refrain from that kind of language and attitude in front of the children. I won't tolerate it and have piped up before when people have made offensive comments within earshot of my DCs. As far as what to say to your children, just be honest, that this lady was very rude and what she said is not acceptable and they must never say anything themselves like that (which I'm sure they won't).
Tough one, but unfortunately there are people around with such bigoted views.

You told her you don't like this sort of comment and don't agree with it. You did the right thing. Depends how you feel about her now? I couldn't be friends with someone who thought like this, so would probably steer clear of her from now on, but it's your call.

TBH I've realised she's not my sort after this. She even stands there chatting to other mums who are black, so she's a wolf in sheeps clothing in my opinion.
