To think all buggies are designed for short arses?

Was going to put this with a boring thread title in products, but I thought this way I may get a few more answers!

I am 5'10 which isn't even that tall and I'm finding myself stoop when I'm trying out new buggies. I'm looking for a rear-facing one for number 2 due in August.

What do all you tall mners push? I had a P&Ts but sold it as I found it too cumbersome.

A bugaboo, its the only answer!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 20/04/2009 14:56

i think bugaboo chameleon has an extenable handle but not sure how high it goes. i know your pain though! (and i'm only 5'8"!!)

Stretch · 20/04/2009 14:56

Oh yes!! I am the same. I'm only 5'8 and have to stoop over the buggy. Quinny Zapps are very bad for height!!

SparklingSarah · 20/04/2009 15:03

when you're 5 ft 5 10 IS that tall!!

not really!

was just going to agree that bugaboo has extenable handles which may suit - try an online search buggy extendable handles?

or the huge mothercares etc where tehy have LOADSA buggies to push about

I have the opposite trouble sometimes a buggy can be too high for my body mass to get very far.

Guadalupe · 20/04/2009 15:04

You can extend the handle on the maclaren too. I used to find myself pushing with the tips of my fingers on my old one and I'm only 5'8.

SlackBladder · 20/04/2009 15:06

Yeah, that's why my hands are level with my shoulders when I take my Techno out... (I'm 5ft 2)

HelleborePelargoniaThunderclap · 20/04/2009 15:10

5'10" is v tall for a woman but not especially tall for a man. Buggy handles ridiculously short imo. I know lots of men who stoop over the handles.

PurlyQueen · 20/04/2009 15:23

I'm 5'10" and my husband is 6'3" and part of the reason why we love the Quinny Buzz is because we don't end up with backache after pushing it.

MoreLikeMiranda · 20/04/2009 15:48

hi, i'm 5"11 and dp is 6"5". we get by with the quinny buzz.

but buyer beware, i was pushing it around the park on saturday when the handle bar snapped where it joins to the circular bit with the button to collapse it.

yes, its very annoying being limited to so few pushchairs/prams by handle bar height when there iare so many others I would be interestd in

VinegarTitsThePorker · 20/04/2009 15:54

YANBU and the designers must be sexist, they semm to design them with petite women in mind, no thought for tall women or men, it doesnt occur to them that men may push buggies too

I not a man of course, just thinking from a mans pov

MrsMagooo · 20/04/2009 15:58

Picante I'm 5' 8" & love really high handles, I currently have an M&P Skate which has a lovely handle height.

I've also had a Quinny Buzz, Hauck Infinity & Loola Up all of which also have a very nice handle height as they are all adjustable.

MorningTownRide · 20/04/2009 15:58

IIRC the 'average' British woman is 5" 4. So ThePaorker is correct!

Dh is SAHD and 6"5 and has a Mamas and Papas thingy (can never remember the name without checking) Tis fine.

marymungoandmidge · 20/04/2009 15:58

Uh hum....'short arses'' excuse me !!!!!! So, anyone woman under 5' 10 in is a 'short arse' then?(to coin your eloquent phrase)....Huh Sorry nothing to recommend - me being normal average height and all that.........!!!

MorningTownRide · 20/04/2009 15:59

Porker - God I can't type today

fleacircus · 20/04/2009 16:02

We have a Stokke Xplory, it's expensive but absolutely brilliant, I am evangelical about it and should be on commission. The handle extends and you can also raise the seat/pram so that you don't have to bend right down to get the baby out. And having the baby up high is lovely.

MrsMagooo · 20/04/2009 16:03

Flea same with my Skate - one of the many reasons I love it, being able to have it so high up huge plus, definately my fav....so far lol!

Eve4Walle · 20/04/2009 16:10

I am also a 'short arse' at a tiny 5ft 4in.

Also known as 'Ducks Disease' and Midget Girl.

lou222 · 20/04/2009 16:15

i'll second the stokke i'm 5 9 and it's great.
I accidentally set the handle lower than normal the other day and really noticed a difference. They may be expensive but the re-sale value is good so shouldn't work out too bad in the end

nelix2000 · 20/04/2009 16:16

second the stokke....6ft 5 friend said it was fab for him!

IneedAbetterNickname · 20/04/2009 16:29

My friend is 5'10, possibly more, but loves pushing my SilverCross Linear Sleepover, as the handle goes high enough for her (and also low enough for me at 5'1. Her Graco (Sterling I think)

OrmIrian · 20/04/2009 16:30

Most of them seem to be. Along with ironing boards. So glad to have abandoned my buggy for good.

MrsFlittersnoop · 20/04/2009 16:46

I'm also 5'10" and suffered permanent backache when DS was in a buggy for this very reason. I came to the conclusion that very tall women aren't actually supposed to have, you know, "sexual relations" with chaps at all, or not frequently enough to REPRODUCE, at all events! .

A former acquaintance (5'3") blithely remarked to me that she was very pleased when her DD stopped growing at 5'6" because she was terrified that if she grew any taller, her daughter would never get married and would be discriminated against in the workplace "because men can't stand being around women who are taller than them, can they?" . Mind you, she was as thick as muck!

I don't flatten clothes iron either - ironing boards are too low for me!

steppemum · 20/04/2009 17:15

We are on dc 3 and buggy number 4 or 5???? But we now have a Maclaren techno (bought on ebay) We spent hours going round all the shops with a tape measure until we found the makes that were tall enough. Others have extendable handles but you gain about 2 kilos in weight for that feature, and we needed a lightweight model. My Techno says it is from 6 months, can't see why as it is lie back flat and so we used it from birth, very, very good, has everything we wanted, height was definitely a considertation. Only problem is it is front facing. But unless I needed the hood closed I looked straight down onto dds face anyway for the first 6 months.
(be warned, not all Maclarens are so tall, and the techno is the old model name I think, I don't know what it is called now)

frazzledgirl · 20/04/2009 17:42

We have an iCandy apple, very adjustable handle which is perfect for me at 5ft 7ins, and DH at 6ft 3ins. Main reason for buying it, TBH, but it's also a fab pram and we love it.

kissyfurschaos · 20/04/2009 17:50

Have a Maclaren Quest. At 5ft 10 is is just comfy. Would be stooping for sure if I wore heels- good job I'm a slummy mummy!
Have also had a Mamas and Papas MPX system which was fine as had adjustable handle, a Britax Verve just about ok and also had a cheap Mollies Stroller for argos- used once was like pushing a doll's buggy!
