To think all buggies are designed for short arses?

Was going to put this with a boring thread title in products, but I thought this way I may get a few more answers!

I am 5'10 which isn't even that tall and I'm finding myself stoop when I'm trying out new buggies. I'm looking for a rear-facing one for number 2 due in August.

What do all you tall mners push? I had a P&Ts but sold it as I found it too cumbersome.

I have had most buggies, you cannot go wrong with a bugaboo chameleon, I'm 5'10" it's fantastic and the best pram on the market in my opinion.

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/04/2009 17:55

Britax Vigour is also rear facing and has an adjustable handle.

Picante · 20/04/2009 17:59

Ooh wow thanks guys I shall investigate all of these. I have been eyeing up the iCandy... why are all your suggestions so darn expensive?

You'd think you'd be able to buy a gadget thing which extends the handles! (lightbulb emoticon...)

At a diminutive 4'11", I found most of them too high; only the adjustable ones gave me any chance of pushing without aching arms. My 4" nothing best friend can just about push my M&P Luna, but can't see over the hood to baby and occasionally crashes it (gently) into things which are low. So, I sympathise greatly but I think perhaps buggies are designed for medium "arses", rather than shorties!

Picante · 20/04/2009 18:19

Just noticed the Quinny Buzz is only suitable from 6 months?! What did you lot do before then - those of you who've got one?

Stokke won hands down for us. DH is 6' 5' and we considered the bugaboo before DS1 was born. Then we tried the Stokke and were converted instantly. Even DH doesn't have to bend down to pick DS up. DS is nearly 8 months now and I can see us using this pram/pushchair for a long time to come. The only issue that we foresee is that you cannot (currently) attach a buggyboard.

Oh, and DS thinks it is great that he is practically at eye level with Mummy too!

MiniMarmite · 20/04/2009 18:25

just thought I should add that the Stokke is relatively difficult to get hold of (depending on where you are) and that we found that this shop (backcare specialists so genuine interest in tall people's needs) www.backinactionuk.com/?gclid=CJ_Rt8j8_5kCFUKK3godeDrRFQ

had everything we needed in stock and price matched with other retailers who shall remain nameless (but well known to MN) and messed us around.

MiniMarmite · 20/04/2009 18:28

sorry, wrong link. correct link is: www.backinaction.co.uk/

Picante · 20/04/2009 18:30

Ooh thanks Mini. It is expensive though!

Sorrento · 20/04/2009 18:35

What's the stokke like on a practical level though, does it fit in a car boat, it looks bloody huge ?
I like the idea of the baby being so high up but that pram looks like it would be a right faff, to use the technical terms.

MrsMagooo · 20/04/2009 18:37

Picante it's just the seat unit on the Buzz that is from 6 months, you can use the Dreami Carrycot from birth - it's a lovely carrycot too

Picante · 20/04/2009 18:38

Oh thanks MrsM. I would like one that does not completely fill our kitchen like the Phil and Teds did.

mothercare urban detour 3 wheeler
i am nearly 5 ft 10 and it is perfect for me
not bad buggy all round either

Miamla · 20/04/2009 18:44

i'm 5'10, DP is 6'7 and we both get on fine with our M&P Luna

Sorrento - it folds down quite small. You can just about fit it in a Polo but you probably wouldn't get it in anything smaller. I have a Golf and it fits very easily in that. We even took it on a long haul holiday in the travel bag you can buy.

Overall we find it to be very practical. We are very space limited and did not want to end up buying another buggy when LO got past the carrycot stage so it had to be easy to put up and down and do all the things you ever need a buggy to do.

Picante - it is expensive but we got quite a good discount (especially on the extras by asking for a price match that was very kindly honoured). Still expensive though.

One minor fault with it is that the suspension is not as good as the bugaboo (for example) but it hasn't ever been a big problem.

MollieO · 20/04/2009 19:13

I'm 5'9.5 (the 0.5 is important!!. I had a Quinny Freestyle which was perfect. Everything else I tried was too low. The handle can be altered so even short arsed people are okay with it.

MollieO · 20/04/2009 19:14

Should add that the Quinny has shock absorbers and fitted into the boot of my MX5.

ElenorRigby · 20/04/2009 19:35

I understand your pain OP, indeed as an engineer I helped a tall colleague by having a low trolley of hers altered so she didnt suffer back pain.
In contrast I found your coarse reference to "short arses" insulting and unwarranted. Could you be a tad more considerate towards those of a more petite stature please?

bekx20 · 20/04/2009 19:46

im 5'11! i use the urban detour three wheeler from mothercare and its caused me no problems, id reccomend it for us giants! lol! grin

Jojay · 20/04/2009 19:49

I've got a Baby Jogger City Mini which has a high handle and is lightweight, folds up small and is generally brilliant in every way!

CarGirl · 20/04/2009 19:52

I'm 5' and agree that buggies are made for short arses as I find most of them the perfect height!

If you're looking for something cheaper than what is already recommended try the maclaren XT it is too high for me at it's lowest setting and goes even higher.

PurlyQueen · 21/04/2009 15:46

Can I add that my DH managed to fit the Quinny Buzz in the boot of my Smart

abermum · 21/04/2009 15:53

mia moda allegria
mia moda elite
mutsy urban rider
bebecar ipop
o baby zezu
icandy apple
quinny buzz
hauck/icoo infinity
maxi cosi mura
britax vigours

there's a few to be getting on with- the first on the list is too tall for short arsed 5'2" me and even on the smallest setting the handle is higher than my boobs mind you that could just be a reflection on the un-perkiness of my chest

lastboxoftampons · 22/04/2009 17:35

sorry to crash here - but Abermum, I assume you've been able to see the mia moda allegria in person? Can you tell me where?

Thanks!
