To think all buggies are designed for short arses?

Was going to put this with a boring thread title in products, but I thought this way I may get a few more answers!

I am 5'10 which isn't even that tall and I'm finding myself stoop when I'm trying out new buggies. I'm looking for a rear-facing one for number 2 due in August.

What do all you tall mners push? I had a P&Ts but sold it as I found it too cumbersome.

Second for icandy apple - my husband 6'1 doesn't have the handle at it's highest point.

Fab all round, rear facing buggy

curlygal · 22/04/2009 18:18

I would go for the maclaren techno xt if I were to buy another new buggy.

I am 5'9" and find the maclaren xt the perfect buggy. I got mine in a charity shop and did a fix up job on it and it's great. I think that the newer model can be be used as a lie down pram and you can put the hood on the other way and end up with a kind of rear facing pram.....

Also found the mamas and papas pramette good - also can be rear facing.

Maclaren ryder was ok.

Maclaren triumph built for someone of 5'4" so not comfy for me at all.

Never tried the posh pram everyone is raving about but it sounds great!

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 22/04/2009 18:29

I am 5'10 and DH 6'5 the only one we test drove that was suitable for him was the Maclaren XLR (which is suitable from birth but is forward facing only). Saying that DH still kicks the back of the buggy when he walks.

FrankMustard · 22/04/2009 18:30

I have a Jane and the handle is adjustable so even my 6'4'' DH can comfortably push it around.

MsMargotBeauregarde · 22/04/2009 18:35

I'm small (not a short arse thanks!) just small and I would have found the phil and teds more comfortable to push if the handle had been higher.

BUT......... when you're folding them up, fitting in the boot factor really affects sales, so I was told by my friend who worked at MC. So I don't think that will change.

notcitrus · 22/04/2009 18:40

maclaren techno xt - fine for me at 5'8, MrNC is 5'10 and says it's fine. It goes flat so fine from birth and if you ever go on buses or climb stairs with it, it's great. As of this year it comes in funky colours too - last seasin's was a drab grey.

MsMargotBeauregarde · 22/04/2009 18:42

I have had the techno for about four yrs now. got it when dc1 was a toddler. I could have managed with just that buggy. It is great. Mine is dull drab grey too thoguh.

I would quite go so far as to have another child just so that I get to have a lovely colour buggy. tempting.

shivster1980 · 22/04/2009 18:59

I'm 6 Foot and we have a baby jogger city mini. the handle isn't adjustable but is tall enough for me.
My friend used a Mamas and Papas 03 Sport with her DD and that was fine for me too on the highest handle setting.

eclairea · 22/04/2009 22:18

Another vote for the Stokke here. DH is 6'6, I am 5'6 and we each find the Stokke is fab. The bugaboo might have been OK but although the handle is high the pram is still v low so you don't feel as 'connected'. The Stokke is very adjustable for different sized people to push, v light, the baby is lovely and high up so you can chat, and further away from traffic fumes, inquisitive dogs, etc. It is expensive but you can get secondhand ones (ours was from ebay and we paid less than half the price of a new one).

abermum · 23/04/2009 09:40

lastbox- in my shop but i am in the deepest depths of wales, but you are welcome to come and see me

tis a fab buggy!

Upwind · 23/04/2009 09:52

starlight "And, you're only complaining because everything else including clothes is designed for you so you're rather spoilt."

eh? So why are longer lengths a specialist category? At 5'6 I was unable to find any maternity jeans or trousers long enough to fit, supporting the theory that taller than average women are not meant to reproduce.

Another vote for the Maclaren techno, IIRC silvercross pop seemed okay too

purpleduck · 23/04/2009 09:59

I am a short arse

Picante · 24/04/2009 07:22

Er... not sure how you think clothes are designed for tall people... especially maternity clothes! Funny how shops have 'petite' sections but not sections for taller women... no, ew are restricted to bloomin' Long Tall Sally or showing a lot of ankle or midriff!

Rant over!!

I love the iCandy Cherry. Thanks to all your sensible suggestions.

And for the record, I am a tall arse.

Hi there
I've had many buggys and I found that the silvercross buggy is the best for height or the Loola Up (not the ordinary loola with the angled handles) seem to be the best. both are rear facing and the Loola has the advantage of being able to fold up with the seat still atatched (which believe me becomes vital)
hope that helps
Toria

cheekytor · 06/05/2009 09:16

oooh just to add I'm 5' 10 too

thederkinsdame · 06/05/2009 20:43

I would say the opposite, that all buggies and prams are made for people who are really tall. I'm on my 4th now and have only had one that was just right.

If you want a buggy that works for tall folk try the O Baby. We got ours last week and the handles are just under my chin - I'm 5 ft 3. My DH who's just under 6 foot thinks they are perfect. I am gutted as I have to push the bloody thing all day! For a pram try the Britax trekker - again, up near my arm pits! HTH

giantkatestacks · 06/05/2009 20:53

Isnt the maclaren techno xlr technically rear facing because you can put the rear facing car seat in it and once you're done with that then it becomes a normal forward facing buggy? best of both worlds really...

I have had friends regret buying the stokke - especially when trying to fit them into the plastic sheds at nursery...

Longtalljosie · 06/05/2009 21:33

And, you're only complaining because everything else including clothes is designed for you so you're rather spoilt.
