We live in a maisonette which shares a communal garden with about 5 other households, mainly elderly folks. We are an "Ecover" household, we don't use "mainstream" cleaning products or air-fresheners.

I am sitting in the garden whilst the DD's play on thier bikes etc, and two of my neighbours have hung washing out, and the stench of Lenor/Comfort/whatever is all but making me gag, I am seriously thinking of going inside the smell is so strong. Bleurgh!!!!!

I've got my nappies on the line now.
Eco washing powder, white vinegar instead of conditioner and good old sunshine to bleach out the bf/blw poo stains.

MrsMattie · 18/04/2009 14:08

Blue Lenor is lush@tracybath

Seriosuly, do you not think Ecover stinks?@Ecover users. I can smell it on people's clothes. It has a very strong, slightly pissy/lemony smell.

traceybath · 18/04/2009 14:08

I also love occitane rose or lavender ironing water

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/04/2009 14:08

conditioner is lovely - though prefer comfort to lenor

and i spray liberally with febreeze in my house

MrsMattie · 18/04/2009 14:11

Me too!@tracy.

I love nice smells. I don't go in for liberal sprayings of Galde or anything, though. That's a step too far .

WittyKitty · 18/04/2009 14:12

Oh yes Ecover is a bit erm....

Ironing water can be found just beside the other lthal products such as washing powder and softner.

I am very proud to say I make my own Ironing Water.

Water and a bit of Blue Lenor in an empty MrMuscle bottle.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

MrsMattie · 18/04/2009 14:12

Glade, even

Thunderduck · 18/04/2009 14:13

Comfort is a lovely smell. I'd never heard of Ecover but I'll take the artifical Comfort over pissy/lemony scented clothes.

audreyraines · 18/04/2009 14:15

oooh, i love the smell of persil, especially when i'm pregnant

fizzpops · 18/04/2009 14:15

I agree to a certain extent in that I find some fabric softeners smell unbelievably strong. To the point where they make me feel sick but it is usually when it is in the bottle and not once it has been through a washing machine.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 18/04/2009 14:16

So Ecover has 'a slightly pissy/lemony smell' - the poor old people near you greenmonkies - they'll all be thinking they're incontinent when you hang your washing out!!!

I love this thread. How can you have so much fun talking about washing products?

WittyKitty · 18/04/2009 14:20

I have to say, even for me, Fairy (white one) is a tad over-powering.

That's the only one though, well that and the black Lenor......

SerendipitousHarlot · 18/04/2009 14:21

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa pmsl @ the old people thinking they've peed their pants

SerendipitousHarlot · 18/04/2009 14:22

There is black lenor?

WittyKitty · 18/04/2009 14:23

Oh yes, they had a red Lenor too (much nicer) half price in Semi-chem.

HelleborePelargoniaThunderclap · 18/04/2009 14:24

Get over yerself, GreenMonkies.

I wish your spelling were as sensitive as your wee nose.

qwertpoiuy · 18/04/2009 14:28

I admire your contribution to environmental friendliness, OP. Though these products are very expensive, and your elderly neighbours may not be as flush as you are so rely on BOGOF containers of Lenor/Comfort.
But keep up the good work

one of the best smells in the world is fresh washing on the line.

comes a close second to grass cutting

ecover makes me think of staleness and incontinence. tis what my aunt uses, and I had hidious skin growing up (think dry snake-skin looking), and she smells baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!

psychomum5 · 18/04/2009 14:32

I change between my smells tho.

one week I have blue, next is yelow, had purple last week............who nose what I will have next week....

onagar · 18/04/2009 14:34

Light a cigarette out there. I find that masks most bad smells

duchesse · 18/04/2009 14:35

Also an Ecover household here. I had to buy some Persil small and mighty at the start of my pregnancy to wash the sofa fitted covers because they STANK- even though they are linen and it was January I thought they had to be done. The smell of the Persil was worse than dog+smelly feet and made me < boak > every time I sat on the sofa- I had to have a hankie soaked in lavender oil right next to my nose Lady with the Camelia stylee. Thankfully it has now worn off/ my sense of smell has become less acute/ the dog and foot smell has returned. Back to the lavender oil...

This could be the issue that threatens to split MN down the middle.

Are you a Lenor or Ecover 'household'?

MamaHobgoblin · 18/04/2009 14:40

lol at 'We are an Ecover Household'! Sorry, that does sound a wee bit complacent to me.

Seriously, do you really find that Ecover actually works? I used to use it and the wretched stuff costs more for less performance.
