OP posts:

It may not last long anyway, Balloon. And perhaps he could aim for something more in the stained glass line next time.

jellycat · 17/04/2009 22:50

I'm intrigued by sassy's of 22.22 but have no idea (can't get anyone else's in fact ).

Pogleswood · 17/04/2009 22:55

this is such a brilliant thread! monkey puzzle tree and marbles in a jar - Charlotte Sometimes? and you've got those nice Marlow girls too...
My grandson has been staying with me during the holidays, aand has told me some unbelievable stories -where would one meet a caveman, for heavens sake! And AIBU to think that it is character forming for a small boy to spend all day playing on his own in a quarry?

CJCregg · 17/04/2009 22:56

I can't get any of these at the moment - probably time for bed. Is no one interested in my mother and the dishy photographer?

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:00

Pogleswood, a quarry is okay but you shouldn't let the child play in a dump.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:02

CJ, wild guess, The Bridges of Madison County?

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:02

Pogleswood, yes it was def. Charlotte Sometimes.

CJCregg, yes I am interested in the dishy photographer but have no idea. More clues?

CJCregg · 17/04/2009 23:04

Yes, moomin, you star!

Who was BalloonSlayer's nephew?

Simplysally · 17/04/2009 23:09

AIBU? I am a bank manager and there is a mortgage on a property which hasn't been paid for some time. Now apparently one of the children of the mortgager has been sent to live with relatives in another state as they want to help out. Surely the relatives could help pay the mortgage instead?

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:13

Well, I think I may be given the sack, as I am simply not performing at my new job. Oh well, at least I can go home to the country. I'll be able to sit down under my favourite cork tree and relax.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:16

CJ, it was David Copperfield.

Jellycat you're Ferdinand!

Stayingsunnygirl · 17/04/2009 23:16

Theyoungvisitor - the Cornwall/Ibiza etc one was The Shell Seekers by Rosamund Pilcher (who my dh refers to as 'the fish woman').

My life circumstances have changed dramatically in recent weeks. My family and I have been relocated to a very bleak estate and my dh appears to have had some sort of a breakdown. AIBU to use all the social security money on bread and jam for myself?

Pogleswood · 17/04/2009 23:16

Jellycat, are you feeling bullish at the prospect?

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:18

Very much so, Pogleswood, very much so .

llandb · 17/04/2009 23:18

My DS is such a sensitive and imaginative child. Those other children are very boisterous, and he doesn't enjoy their rough games at all. So, he spends the entire day in his own company. But in a very healthy way, you know - no X-box or telly; nature walks and quiet contemplation (some would call it 'daydreaming') are his style.

Well, I know that one is supposed to socialise one's child, but there are no nice children around here. And he is such a well-mannered, poised child; and he assures me that he is happy.

So whyever interfere? AIBU to allow him let him play on his own, all day, every day?

llandb · 17/04/2009 23:26

Oopsie

I have been dreadfully remiss in that I have not been paying full attention to all other posts. And taking a terribly long time to compose mine.

So I hit send and then discovered - that somebody else has just done the same book!

I am, as you know, a different character in the book, but my cat (who is now someone else's cat) was named after your character

barbarianoftheuniverse · 17/04/2009 23:32

AIBU to remind dcs of fate of dh everytime I allow them to venture from this hole? I am particularly worried about ds. I know he trespasses and steals, and recently he came home entirely naked.

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:33

Talking of quarries, was IBU to kill my twin brother and throw his body and his pen into a quarry when we were 13?

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:35

barbarian, I am sure your ds will be able to get himself out of a scrape if necessary, even if he loses yet another nice new blue jacket.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:35

No, barbarian, very sensible, but I think the DS could have bread and milk too. After all, boys will be bucks.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:39

Oooh Jellycat, I love that book. It serves you right that a doppelganger turned up to impersonate your DB so successfully.

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:42

Moomin, I love Brat! The description of him near the end, when he is still unconscious, makes me swoooon .

barbarianoftheuniverse · 17/04/2009 23:50

So glad I brought the cuckoo clock.

jellycat · 17/04/2009 23:51

Must go to bed...night night all

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 23:57

Cuckoo clock - the Third Man?

My brain's seizing up but before bedtime AIBU to want to run away from my family? I am a tremendously talented violinist but my nasty little twin sisters, who muck about on the piano a bit, sneer at me.
I have a sweet little brother but my mother is just as nasty about my gift as the twins. And my father is an unreliable journalist who is always flogging our heirlooms and having affairs.
