I have been out all day today, picking up prescription, taking the dog for a grooming, done the food shopping. All because the pil are visiting tonight, and staying over because they are driving somewhere in the morning that is closer to us than them (about 30 miles closer)
Now i don't mind making an effort for people coming to visit, but this has annoyed me.
We only have two bedrooms. We have no spare beds, there are duvets and the sofas, which are leather. Already mil has expressed that as a guest she should take our bed. Which would be fair enough but i am 17 weeks pg and don't really fancy sleeping on a sofa, plus when i was 7 months pg with ds i slept on the floor at their house as they didn't give up the bed to their guests.
Anyway, the main thing that has annoyed me is when i got home there with all the shopping and the two rather heavy melons they requested for breakfast. Dp tells me that he is going to upgrade our virgin media package so that his dad can watch the football tonight as he is missing it by being here.
I said no, and if he wantch to watch the footy so badly they can drive the extra miles in the morning.
Dp thinks i am being out of order.
Am i?

YANBU. Sleep in your own bed, and remind them that you slept on their floor. If FIL wanted to watch the football he should have stayed at home.

Stretch · 08/04/2009 16:19

No, not at all!

I am 17 weeks pregnant too and sleeping on the sofa or floor would kill my back!

No to the upgrade either, unless FIL is paying for it completely? In advance? You usually have to have the whole package for 2 months don't you??

Stretch · 08/04/2009 16:20

I take it you mean the Liverpool game? You could send fil out to the nearest pub to watch it?

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 16:22

I don't have a clue about how long we would have it for, or how much it costs. We've never changed it since we had it installed.
DP is away to the shop to buy milk because i bought the wrong kind. They like the blue capped stuff, i didn't know lol.

sounds more like an excuse for dp to upgrade. You'll forget to cancel it too and have it for much longer than the minimum

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 16:24

pub idea is a good one.

Yanbu, in the least

I agree, definitely tell them to sleep on the bloody floor as well, remind them that is what you did at 7mths.

And in time honoured MN fashion, tell your DP to grow a pair and tell his parents to stop taking the pee.

Or just send them off to the pub to watch the footie and go to bed before they get back

cheshirekitty · 08/04/2009 16:27

Personally, I would put a tent out in your garden for them. Letting a 7 month pregnant lady sleep on the floor - disgusting.

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 16:27

dp doesn't really care for the footy, well he hasn't bothered so far and we have had the package from Nov.07. I will suggest dp takes them to the pub for the game though.

YANBU - the tv business would infuriate me beyond belief!

JuwEggsm · 08/04/2009 16:28

And AAAARRRGH about the milk! I bet they wouldn't have known if they weren't told/ didn't see the top of the milk!

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 16:29

lol @ balls of steel!

So not only do they expect you to give up your bed when pg. Buy additional food & milk for one night and then try to make you watch football.

Why are they coming to visit you. If it only to save an additional 30 miles driving then i would suggest a travel lodge as it will meet with all their 'hotel' needs which they seem to thing you are running.

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 18:21

I am taking ds swimming and dp can take them to the pub to watch the football. Should be fun..

FFS all to save driving 30 miles in the morning??

She actually SAID she expected your bed and put in an order for breakfast - FFS - tell your DH to tell them it isn't a farking hotel.

You have the patience of a saint and I agree, tell DH to grow some while he's at the Pub tonight (just make sure they take MIL as well!!!).

You got the dog groomed because they are coming????

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 08/04/2009 18:50

Bloody hell. If any one came to visit and wanted melons for breakfast I'd expect them to bring their own. Hide them and tell them they were just too much for you to manage in your pg state. Then gorge on them when the ILs have gone.

Saucepanman · 08/04/2009 21:51

YAS(so) NBU! My FIL once took his own satellite dish to my SIL's! We were both gleeful when he couldnt get it to work!

crucifiedcremeegg · 08/04/2009 21:53

Cheeky feckers! Don't you dare sleep on that couch!

PrammyMammy · 08/04/2009 22:33

Back, we went swimming, dp and his dad went to the footy at the pub and his mum stayed here with the dog.
I got the dog trimmed because she needed it, and they hate her hairs so it motivated me.
So just bedtime to go. They have the sofas :D

Good work.

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 09/04/2009 14:03

Did they sleep well?

EasterBunnysWizzskas · 09/04/2009 14:26

If he wants to watch footy wherever he goes he should get a sling box here You can watch your own tv anywhere in the world. We have one and DH can watch the celtic games when he's visiting my Mum. His mate in North Carolina watches them via our slingbox and some comedy shows. They're really good.
