to want to slap dh silly?

i am venting, but dh is doing my head in!
we are having new flooring fitted in the kitchen tomorrow, so we have to lift the old floor and take of the kick boards. i left dh to it and he pulled on one so hard it snapped in half! It's not a clean break so is totally fucked, AND the kitchen is an mfi one so i can't replace it.
i am so pissed off, this is just one thing in a long line of diy fuckups but it's the one that broke the camels back so to speak.

arrrgggg

I can understand why you're angry but having a penis does not automatically qualify someone to fit a kitchen.

Why don't you do it

nametaken · 07/04/2009 23:40

Unless he actually is a kitchen fitter. now there's a worrying thought.

BecauseImWoeufit · 07/04/2009 23:42

Sorry - but this is an awful thread title. Can you imagine the response on here if it was posted by a man?

Sorry that your dh has been such a twunt though!

ShyTalk · 07/04/2009 23:48

My DH is lovely, but just like this - if it can be broken, DH will break it. MY DH would do just what yours did - just yank something so hard that it "just broke" and then get all moody-faced cos I'm cross. However, the kickboard can be fixed. Get some good strong contact adhesive, put it on the two broken parts (obviously, after the new floor is down and you are ready to re-fit the kickboard) and line them up. Push them together really hard and hold/tape for a couple of hours. Fixed. Job done. Should be good as new.

heather1980 · 07/04/2009 23:49

sorry BecauseImWoeufit, but i am really angry, all he had to do was take off the boards, instead he breaks one.

nametaken funnily enough him and his mate fitted the kitchen, we weren't living here at the time as the house was being done up. ergo i wasn't there to supervise. they totally messed it up as they were drinking whilst fitting it, but that is a whole other rant!

shy i wish i could but the break isn't a clean one. the edges are all splintered and the veneer is cracked. the only way to mend it would be to cut the two edges straight and glue them together. but then there would be a join which will REALLY bug me!

It was only an accident though, I think you are being way too harsh.

What are kick boards? The bits at the bottom of units?

I'm sure you'll be able to get a replacement somewhere. Might not be the same original one, but surely you'll get one that looks the same.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 07/04/2009 23:56

oh yes the "its the inanimate objects fault for not being strong/hard/bendy etc enough to deal with my (clumsy and bad tempered) handling" line. very familiar in this house.

every time dh has busted something its always because its "cheap/fragile/badly made/tat" or some such.

if i have ever damaged anything (not often i hasten to add) it is immediately the most precious wonderful thing that should have been on an ivory pedestal behind plate glass and i, mere woman, should never have laid a buffed nail upon.

my sympathies to you and your kickboard RIP.

heather1980 · 08/04/2009 00:00

yes dsm they are the bits at the bottom of the units.

lol toomuch.

toomuch, that's the kind of thing DH says whenever he breaks something - this evening it was a side plate that he had balanced somewhere it shouldn't have been and then knocked onto the quarrytiled floor - his excuse?

"there's just too much crap in this place, how am I supposed to do anything?"

Er. no dear, crap has nothing to do with it, you balancing a plate right next to your elbow has far more to do with why you sent it crashing to the ground.
Am also annoyed because it is Denby and a pattern they stopped making about 4years ago.

Sympathies, heather. But don't slap him - just make him fix it somehow.

mayorquimby · 08/04/2009 14:59

(contemplates starting a thread about wanting to slap his girlfriend silly just to see the deifference in replies) (thinks better of it)

SarahL2 · 08/04/2009 15:14

I have every sympathy. DH decided he would fit our kitchen himself. Started last July and it's still not finished!!!

Are the kickboards coloured? If they're white/cream you should be abe to buy them from pretty much any DIY shop. Even Ikea sell kickboards. If you can't get the same colour, replace the lot with something close so at least they'll all look the same.

You could even use this as an excuse to get some kickboard drawers...I'm sure they're great...mine are still waiting to be fitted

thumbbunny · 09/04/2009 01:57

mayorQ I think the first thread I ever posted on when I joined MN was by a guy called BodyBag, I think, who did that very thing (i.e. posted a thread title reversing genders). It went very bad.
