I live on a narrowboat with my 7mnth ds, and Im constantly being asked Isnt it damp?I point out that I live on the water and not in it.Ive been unlucky this winter and suffered several colds and the like, only to be asked on several occasions..could it be because you live on a boat?Well no..why should it be!!!Surely that implies that my home is somehow inferior? I have doors and windows which open and close,a fully functional kitchen and bathroom [with full size bath] a washing machine, tumble dryer, solid fuel stove..I could go on..I will..a garden, with chickens [fresh eggs every day] and a very happy healthy ds!My hospital notes referred to me as a boat dwellerwhich I know isnt exactly derogatory, but it needn`t have been mentioned, and sounded a bit, well, tree dwellerish.Am I being over sensitive?

Ah. right. Should read more carefully. Mind you, I'd be pretty impressed by a house with 6 bedrooms. I am very easily impressed!

Seeker..your boat is massive..how many bedrooms has she got? Mine has one tweeny one.Id love a bigger boat, but keep thinking I want to move to Yorkshire to be near my family, and maybe shouldnt invest too much here.I love these moorings and theyre very reasonably priced..and I dont know how easy it would be to find a boat on a serviced mooring elsewhere.Just a bit lonely sometimes.I am surrounded by people, and have friends etc,but having a baby has made me want to see more of my family..

She's a Humber Keel, boatwitch - 3 bedrooms, a study, a bathroom, s loo and a big saloon that's divided up into dining room, living room and kitchen. But we've had her for 21 years and it's taken us that long to get her the way we want her (finished ds's bedroom last week and he's 8!)

The big problem is that we can't fit into the inland waterways - so there really isn't anywhere for us to go except big voyages - which we're too wimpy to do
