weird or more sinister?

I was out running today whilst DD slept (DH was obviously home!)

I ran along a river near our house. On the other side of the river was a man weeing in to the river, at least seeminly doing this??

I noticed this but went to just ignore him and carry on (the other side of a river is a family park/lake. There are toilets over there but you could be caught out around the lake, maybe).

Anyway, as I was running past he coughed very loudly (or maybe the wind was blowing my way??). I couldn't help but look back up and then he started waving at me.

I did not know him and he still had his pants down. Obviously I couldnt see any detail, he was a whole river width away.

I did not think much of this and just ignored him. However my DH thinks its very odd and that maybe this man was a flasher?

The thing is it was broad daylight (lunch time), he was across the river, I was not scared and maybe he was just embarassed when I looked over so waved .. ??

Am I being naive or was it just weird/accidental?

This is weird!

salome64 · 04/04/2009 20:12

Flasher. Classic. You need to tell the police because it could happen to children. They will probably know exactly who you are talking about, but often need lots of info to build a case against someone like this.

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 20:13

Well, if he had his pants down and deliberately tried to get your attention I'd say definitely a flasher.

HecAteTheEasterBunny · 04/04/2009 20:13

yup. flasher. report it.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 04/04/2009 20:14

Hmm. I think a flasher. Most gentleman, I think, don't lower their trousers and pants to their knees to have a wee.

AMumInScotland · 04/04/2009 20:14

If he was just having a wee, he wouldn't be likely to have his pants down so you could see everything, he'd just point it out his fly. I saw a chap doing the same when I was a student and was out jogging - at first I assumed the same as you, but when I thought about it later I fugured he was making it all a lot more visible than he needed to...

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 20:14

Agree with salome too - it's not likely to be the first time he's done it so police would probably like to be aware.

traceybath · 04/04/2009 20:15

definitely report to the police

pamelat · 04/04/2009 20:15

I don't think that I know enough about him to be of any value but I could at least them tell the location.

It was not scarey at all but if the river was not there, then it would have been a little.

It was frankly silly but DH was quite concerned about it. I almost even forgot!

pamelat · 04/04/2009 20:16

Ah you're right. Why didn't I even realise? Its not normal to pull your pants down as a man to wee. What an idiot

TheCrackFox · 04/04/2009 20:19

Flasher. Most men don't take their pants down to have a pee. Report to the police.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 04/04/2009 20:20

I would say flasher. I was flashed at while looking out over Florence at the top of the Piazelle Michelangelo. He was down the slope in the wooded area underneath. The guy just pulled down his pants and started wanking in front of me and another female tourist. Luckily, I had my sunglasses on (so he couldn't see that I had seen) and didn't react (I think that's the bit that turns them on). I just turned round and walked away.

I was really shocked and told DH when I got back to the car. Because we were on our way back to the villa, I didn't think to call the police, but now I wish we had because there were loads of kids and families around and anyone could have seen.

southeastastra · 04/04/2009 20:20

illegal to wee in public anyway bit late to report now though

Mumcentreplus · 04/04/2009 20:21

ermm he's a flashin freak!!...tell the police

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 04/04/2009 20:22

It may not have been scary for you but it may be for the next person. If he is a flasher, he's quite likely to do it again and in the same place. Tell the police.

Ripeberry · 04/04/2009 20:22

Flasher! Without a doubt. Reminds me of a trip i did to Uganda a few years ago. We were on a Tour Truck basically camping our way around the countryside and there were quite a few of us white women and i can guarantee you, not a day went by without local men on seing us approach (on foot) would stop by the side of the road and pretend to have a wee.
They were trying to show us how big their manhoods were.
This was worse in the countryside than in the cities...but it was a real eye opener

rebee · 04/04/2009 20:37

Total pervert, this has happened to me a few times and I always report it to the police.

This behaviour shouldn't be taken lightl as these people that "flash" often go on to become rapists

thelionmummy · 04/04/2009 20:53

flasher!!! maybe, maybe not - rebee this is exactly what the police said to me when i reported "my" flaster!

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 20:53

I have been flashed 3 times and all my friends have been flashed at at least once. It's really quite worrying how common it is.

Ripeberry · 04/04/2009 21:27

They are basically cowards. If one dared jump out at me i'll cover him in red Farb paint (special can of identikit paint) so small you can keep it in the palm of your hand.
That would keep him off the streets for a few days as its very difficult to remove.

MrsMcCluskey · 04/04/2009 21:29

Flasher!
REport it to Police, he needs keeping an eye on if nothing else

loulou35 · 04/04/2009 21:45

Flasher Report it (and maybe run a different route/with someone incase he plans on doing it again....)

Flashing is often a first step towards commiting a sexual assault of some sort. So definately report them. I was flashed a couple of times as a teenager. The worst one was a man in a balaclava pumping away on his cock in a behind a fenced off bit of field by a pathway. Lovely! Luckily I was an unshockable 14 year old and went straight to the local copshop and told them about it. It was right near a school too.

odisco · 04/04/2009 22:05

I'm with marthasmama - this needs to be reported. It's likely to have happened more than once. Hopefully it won't happen to somoeone on the same bank....
