To have found it hilarious when my toddler pretended to smoke?

I just caught her in the kitchen sitting on the chair with one leg crossed smoking an imaginary fag.

It's awful I now but it was really funny.

i am truely at the pretending to be stoned, i didn't know about being 'stoned' until i was 14, well past the copying and learning stage.

noddyholder · 03/04/2009 20:52

Oh we loved it cutting the ends off and puffing away staggering around theatrically like we were a bit wild.We were 11 and older girls at school showed us!Mn is so easily shocked these days

MsSpentEaster · 03/04/2009 21:00

How did you know you had to cut the ends off?

Had you seen someone do it?

bloody hell, i was one told by my friend that she was keeping a block of canibis under her bed for her boyfriend, i must have been year 9/10 (13/14 years old) and i called her a liar because i thought that canibis was a powder.

francagoestohollywood · 03/04/2009 21:02

Agree, noddy. Easily shocked indeed.

noddyholder · 03/04/2009 21:06

We cut the ends off so the smoke would go through We also used to stuff wonder bras and pretend play quija boards all at PRIVATE SCHOOL IN IRELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MsSpentEaster · 03/04/2009 21:09

yeah we done the 'wonder bra' and ouiji boards too but i wouldn't have had a clue that you would need to cut the end off a joint to let the smoke through, in fact i wouldnt have even known it was called a 'joint' or that it would mak you 'stoned'

noddyholder · 03/04/2009 21:11

We didn't call tehm joints and we cut the end off to make them look more like cigarettes i suppose. We used to say lets smoke these and get stoned.

MmeLindt · 03/04/2009 21:13

We used to love the sweetie cigarettes, I was a very dramatic drama queen smoker. Lots of arms flinging and cheek puffing.

I would not be horrified if I saw a toddler imitating smoking, that is just what they do. I watched DD pretend to put make up on and she opened her mouth to put mascara on (why do I do that)

I would not find it hilarious but I might have a guilty wee snurk.

MsSpentEaster · 03/04/2009 21:14

I wonder if the reason i am so shocked is the fact i was born into a forces family, my dad was in the army, uncle in the raf, both my grandfathers had been in the army, we lived on base alot or in army camps abroad, so most people i knew wouldn't have done drugs

Desiderata · 03/04/2009 22:32

Well, drugs are rather rife in the forces now, Easter.

MsSpentEaster · 03/04/2009 22:36

? really?

do they not do the drugs tests like they used to?

Desiderata · 03/04/2009 22:36

Yes.

And lots of them fail.

MollieO · 03/04/2009 22:39

I wouldn't be bothered about the pretend play (I'd assume he'd been hanging out outside my office building) but I can't imagine a situation where I'd expose a child of mine to a room with "clouds of smoke". If I was visting a friends house and all of them decided to smoke then I'd be making my excuses and leaving.

MollieO · 03/04/2009 22:40

If I were visiting....

DSMaryMagdalene · 03/04/2009 22:50

Did you seriously not know what a joint was, or stoned, at 14?

I had my first joint at 14, but I knew long before what it was, and what it would do.

FWIW - I think the OP's idea of hilarity is very

However, I smoke, my parents don't, never did. Think its a rebellion thing. My brother doesn't, probably because he is the type to be led by example, he does a lot of things as my parents did/do, whereas I do the opposite (not consciously intentionally)

DSMaryMagdalene · 03/04/2009 22:52

Sorry, the point of that was meant to be that being around smoking may make some people more likely to smoke, and some less so.

Not being around smoking will have the same effect.

I also have a lot of friends who are dead against smoking, because their parents smoked and they hated it. And some who smoke because their parents did, and they 'copied'.

I hope that makes some sense..

MsSpentEaster · 03/04/2009 23:04

I had my first joint at 14, just after moving to a new area (a city) but before then i never knew anyone that did drugs or ever saw drugs.

Is that really shocking?

TheMightyBoosh · 05/04/2009 18:34

I had no idea what a joint was at 14; vaguey knewa bit about drugs, can't in all honesty saysthat's changed much over thelast 21years, just hasn't realy been much of a relevance to me
