To have found it hilarious when my toddler pretended to smoke?

I just caught her in the kitchen sitting on the chair with one leg crossed smoking an imaginary fag.

It's awful I now but it was really funny.

Seriously?

Lawks · 03/04/2009 18:34

I don't think my toddler has ever seen anyone smoking.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 03/04/2009 18:41

Are you agrophobic?

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 03/04/2009 18:42

agoraphobic even

slayerette · 03/04/2009 18:43

I think Horton has made the real point of this thread: poor kid.

onagar · 03/04/2009 18:50

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate, ty for posting that. No one else will notice.

DunderMifflin · 03/04/2009 18:53

My DD pretended to smoke once when we were walking home from school (she'd been watching the teenagers and that gov ad where kids are copying their parents' smoking) - TBH we both laughed!

I agree with everyone saying that it's nothing to get worked up about.

The thing that I did pull her up on was that she put her sausage roll on the floor while she did it.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 03/04/2009 18:57

DunderMifflin

Was it a G*** sausage roll

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 03/04/2009 19:00

onager

The age of disinformation is upon us

HortonHatchesTheChocolateEgg · 03/04/2009 19:01

Not sure why that's a good thing, Dunder. I'd a hundred times rather my DD put a sausage roll down on the floor and then ate it than smoked or even pretended to. Germs are germs. Smoking is horrible. And I do smoke occasionally, so I'm not being holier than thou, just really sad that a child of this age thinks it's interesting or grown up or funny to smoke.

Thanks, slayerette.

JuxaLOTmoreChocolate · 03/04/2009 19:02

Actually, I think I'll repeat the main point, just for the hell of it, y'know:

The interesting bit is the bit where they say they can't prove a link between exposure to SHS (second hand smoke) and a raised risk of contracting specific diseases.

You'd think people would be happy to hear they are not put at instant risk the minute they see a cigarette, wouldn't you?

francagoestohollywood · 03/04/2009 19:02

Why poor kid? Just because he happened to see someone smoking? Oh dear me.

Anyway, lol at "I'm concerned it was found to be incredibly funny"

bigTillyMint · 03/04/2009 19:04

Children learn by copying.

Why do you think children of addicts frequently becom addicts themselves?

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2009 19:06

We did that as children, it's slightly funny.

NO big deal in my opinion, children like to pretend!

ScottishThistle · 03/04/2009 19:08

PS. If you make a big deal out of something it becomes all the more attractive!!!

francagoestohollywood · 03/04/2009 19:09

I used to pretend to smoke breadsticks as a child. We found it hilarious. Mind you, my parents have never ever smoked. Nor have I ever seen them "drunk".

MrsMills · 03/04/2009 19:16

Bloody hell, when I was a kid you could buy sweet cigarettes, now if thats not encouraging pretend smoking then....something about a monkey

TheMightyBoosh · 03/04/2009 19:29

Many, many years now (OK about 7) ds1 came home from playschool pretending to smoke a crayon.

I have enver smoked, neither has dh and my parents (who did our childcare then) didn't either after having given up.

I watched, helped out for a bit and spotted that the playleaders would open the door and lean out to have a fag on a break.

I moved my ds's and never looked back.

Says all about what I think, tbh

The alcohol / gaf thing... someone once said to me 'fags are the only commercially available items that can kill you when used in the manner intended'

bang on, IMO

noddyholder · 03/04/2009 20:15

I used to smoke twigletts at school and we all pretended to be stoned although i didn't know what stoned was then

HecAteTheEasterBunny · 03/04/2009 20:18

My eldest son does this sometimes and I don't find it funny at all. I use it as an opportunity to tell him that smoking is silly and smelly and bad for you and not something to even pretend to do.

I remember those sweet ciggies - not the white sticks, the PROPER ones - chocolate in edible paper in a really convincing fag packet!
I loved them! Used to pretend to smoke of course. Doesn't stop me lecturing ds though

Desiderata · 03/04/2009 20:21

My four year old rolls mine for me

He's better than I am!

flubdub · 03/04/2009 20:21

Oh
holy
fuck.

flubdub · 03/04/2009 20:22

desi!

Yurtgirl · 03/04/2009 20:25

FWIW imitating smoking, rolling a fag or shooting up would all be disiplined equally by me if I saw my kids doing it!

MrsMaker - Do you smoke yourself?
I truly think you are weird if you think a child doing this is funny.

lou222 · 03/04/2009 20:28

i'm hoping you are a troll else why would you let your toddler be in a room where people are smoking?
are you mental?
