hi

what do people do regarding clothes do u wait till they have grown out of exsiting clothes? or just move them up to the next size when they get to age?

Haylstones · 03/04/2009 13:28

Best to wait until they grow into the next size up. Total waste of money otherwise!

Tortoise · 03/04/2009 13:28

DOesn't matter what age the label says, if it fits, they wear it! If it is too big then obviously they can't wear it until it fits!

mistlethrush · 03/04/2009 13:29

Ds went into 3 -6 mo at 1mo. He went into 6 - 9mo at 4mo... He couldn't stay in the 'right' size - ran out of length. So, yes, you put them in the right size clothes no matter what it says on the label.

Further up you will also find that you are dressing them in different year age clothes - some makes are bigger sizes than others.

IheartEASTEREGGS · 03/04/2009 13:29

lol, all babies are not exactly the same size at the same age.

If she hasnt outgrown the smaller ones then the next size up will be too big, sorry.

My ds2 is still wearing baggy 9-12 month clothes at 14 months
where ds1 wears a size bigger as he's so tall.

she'll look much nicer in the ones that fit properly, whatever the label says inside it.

Reallytired · 03/04/2009 13:35

Do you already have the clothes, or would you be buying new clothes? Or are you wanting to get clothes for the summer and your 0 to 3 months are winter clothes.

I suppose if you already have the clothes and they don't look silly on her, then why not. Also baby clothes for a particlar age vary a lot in size, rather like adult clothes.

I would not buy clothes unless you have to. (Ie. the clothes don't fit or are too warm)

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 13:36

cheers dd2 is very long is in 3-6 month sleepsuits and vests had been for ages.
did try the next size clothes on her dont look 2 bad. and the vests and sleepsuits arent too big

OP posts:
messymissy · 03/04/2009 13:55

My 23 month old is still wearing 9-12 months pjs and tops from next, 9-12 months jacket from Boots, 12-18 month vests from sainsbury, but her coat is 2-3years from Mothercare and a snug fit!.

the sizing is just wierd!

Its different in every shop.

The only one that seems to fit my dd age wise is Debenhams. Everything else is usually huge - I think the manufuctures make sure that if its says 9-12 months, it will fit the 12 month comfortably, so its usually huge on the 9month.

Forget the labels just wear what fits.

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 15:36

cheers reallytired already have the clothes friends plus family bought her outfits in 3-6 months and i have a dd1 2 so have clothes for each size waiting

BouncingTurtle · 03/04/2009 16:00

I'd go by the fit. DS is 15mo and still in 9-12mo because he is ickle... I know younger babies who are in much bigger clothes!
Bit like grown up clothes the sizings vary from shop to shop.

Simplysally · 03/04/2009 16:11

I put my dd in clothes that fitted regardless of the label although my dd being a beanpole tall for her age tends to go into the next age early .

Sbeanmum · 03/04/2009 16:41

Oh dear - do you really need to ask?!

misdee · 03/04/2009 16:44

i only put dd4 in clothes that fit her, same for all my girls

dd1, age 9, is wearing 9-10 stuff

dd2 age 6 is wearing age 9-1o stuff

dd3 age 4 is in ages 2-4 depending on the style/fit

dd4, 4months old is in 3/6-6/9 stuff

Fairynufff · 03/04/2009 16:52

My kids always wear clothes 2 years bigger because once they have been blasted in the tumble dryer everything shrinks an inch anyway.

ummadam · 03/04/2009 16:54

We jump sizes so DS is currently in giant sized 18m-2years tops as he has just grown out of the 9-12 months ones baggy to start with and tight at the end

CherryChoc · 03/04/2009 17:37

DS only went into 3-6m at about 5 months. He still fits into some 0-3 things and is 6m now - I just use the age as a rough guide and put the clothes away when they are too tight to easily get over the head (tops), nappy (trousers), too tight to do up easily (vests, dungarees, rompers) or they are stretched when he fully stretches his legs/toes (sleepsuits). When I run out of clean clothes I use the next size up and so they come into circulation slowly!

suwoo · 03/04/2009 17:41

What a bizarre question .

Smithagain · 03/04/2009 19:04

Is DD2 very small? I do remember getting irritated with all the "wow aren't they growing, my baby is already in age 14 clothes" when DD1 was still in newborn clothes at four months!!! It's weirdly irritating.

These days, my DD2 (aged 3) is modelling clothes in every possible size from 12-18 months to 5-6 years. So I guess I got over it.

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 21:46

dd2 is 61cms long and weighs nearly 11lbs is chubby

OP posts:
IwishIwasmorechocolatey · 03/04/2009 21:48

lol! Put them in whatever fits them!

DS1 is 3.5. He wears 2-3 trousers and 3-4 tops.

DS2 is 10 months old and wearing mainly 12-18 due to his big bum and thighs! (he's on 98th percentile!)

samja · 03/04/2009 21:49

Life's too short to worry about it IMO. What exactly are the pros and cons on either side of this question? None existent. PFB...

ermm you buy them clothes when they don't fit their old ones.

DS1 (8) is in 8-9yr stuff
DS2 (5) is in 6-7yr stuff
DS3 (22 months) is in 2-3yr trousers and 2-3yr tops - although has been in those for several months now and I think I may have to buy some slightly bigger tops soon !

If you have the clothes already then just put on what fits, but don't rush out and buy new clothes until you really have to. I couldn't help myself when my dd was born and ended up with clothes still in packets and with labels! What a waste! Even now at 16 months, we're still working our way through presents, so I've only bought vests, coats and shoes when needed.

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 04/04/2009 09:34

cheers
not rushing out to buy anything she has 3-6 month clothes load from people , summer dresses, dungarees, courdroy dresses is all mostly from next, tshirts trousers. then for all other sizes has clothesa waiting that dd1 wore.
dd1 never grows out of clothes. have just bought all her summer clothes in age 3-4 years she was in age 18-24 months seems to have skipped a size. each season i buy dd1 clothes i.e summer - tshirs , dresses etc and winter long sleeved tops jeans winter dresses
