To expect to be able to go on a holiday we have booked and paid for?

DH and I booked a holiday a couple of months ago - we are leaving on Saturday (camper van for 10 days).

We are having 4 days out of the office and we specifically chose this week because it's easter, so we get more time off for less days out (we only get 20 days hols over here, so every day counts!)

My DH's boss called up this morning and said we may have to cancel as he is busy. To be fair, he is busy, but he is ALWAYS busy. Plus, DH's boss has just had 2 weeks on holiday when DH was at the same level of busyness as now.

I am FUMING. We have been planning and looking forward to this for weeks. It's the first proper holiday we have had for 2 years as last year all our holiday was used up coming back to the UK for family things.

Am I being unreasonable to want to repeatedly bash DH's boss over the head with a frying pan?

Not in the slightest. But then again I told somebody on here the other day that she was completely within her rights to knock her MIL's head off with a cricket bat, so you may want cooler heads to give you their opinion.

How gutting.

Can you reschedule over the Anzac weekend? You will only get one free public holiday rather than two, but it's better than nothing.

Cast iron or non stick??

I would be seriously pissed off. Is there any room for negotiation with Dh's boss?
What a shitbag...

Whoa exact same post time as 9dragons... Snap!!

We don't get a public holiday for Anzac day this year as it's on a saturday. Double grr. The next holiday is the Queen's birthday and that's not til June.

At the end of the day, it is only a holiday, but still, I am so pissed off that he can just waltz in a day before we go, and say we probably can't. Especially when he has just had 2 weeks off. That's the bit I am MOST fucked off about.

Oh, and it would be a cast iron pan. Maybe a nice griddle Le Cruset one.

He is a shit bag. My Dh's colleague told DH that the boss had told her to cancel an IVF treatment as he had a client lunch to go to.

With all the stuff DH has been going through lately (see my mental health thread!) we were just so looking forward to getting away by ourselves for some relaxation time.

Is he going to give you the money you've lost by cancelling the trip?

Surely he can't just cancel it like that - I have no idea what "rights" employees have over here (I'm in Australia too) but it sounds pretty shitty.

(and it's a real bastard we don't get a day off for Anzac's this year, I agree)

Ozziegirly · 02/04/2009 07:24

Yes, he would have to pay for the whole thing, so that's ok.

But everything may be ok - I may have ranted prematurely! He thinks we will be able to go after all.

I don't see why I should feel grateful, it's a holiday for 4 days for fuck's sake, not like we're asking to take his wife to a gang bang.

What? I thought we got Anzac Day on the Monday? Is it a state-by-state thing? I am pretty sure my SMH calendar says we get it.

Your holiday is bad enough but I am stunned about the cancelled IVF treatment.

namechangerforareason · 02/04/2009 14:02

As with regards to cancelling IVF thats illegal for an employer to ask and employee to cancel any medical treatment, Im pretty sure,
Disgraceful!

If the boss had a holiday he cant realistically expect your DH to cancel his! Your DH is legally entitled to his holidays especially if booked so far in advance so YANBU, your DH's boss however is a whle other story!

Hope it works out for you!
