as they had a mark on them(cheapo converse type things that ds wanted)
even though I know they will get marked as soon as he wears them?

Nope, not unreasonable at all. Yes, they will get marked when he wears them, but then HE is making the marks. Obviously the shop didn't think you were unreasonable, or they wouldn't have agreed to the price drop.

If it's marked, then I always ask.

When I worked in retail, I was quite happy to do this.
