not taking a simple and polite NO for an answer?
I have just had a few minutes worth of "conversation" with someone from a Kitchen Company, trying to tell me that our area has been selected ...blablabla...

I mean, do they take you for idiots....I mean, the likelyhood of actually being the one selected to receive a free kitchen is zero, right...so, why would they want to waste their time with someone who is upfront with them and says that they will NOT be able to afford a new Kitchen, not now and not in the near future or even in the enxt ferw years...argh.............................................................so annoying...but I can't bring myself to just be rude or hang up, because, well...I know they are only doing their job, sigh...

I hate these calls too, as soon as I realise that it is a sales call I just say "can I stop you there, I am not interested, thank you, Goodbye" and hang up. Saves everyone the wasted time.

I had a "follow up call" from Renault after a car repair recently. The man said "I see we only have a mobile number for you... can we have a landline too?" I replied with a simple "No" and he was very taken aback and asked why. I pointed out that I don't give out my personal number because I don't want companies phoning me with cr*p. He then asked for an email address and got the same answer, followed by "goodbye"

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2009 12:41

My landline is ex-directory, not available on directory enquiries and I don't give it out willy nilly. Hence, I don't get lots of cr*p sales calls

MamaG · 30/03/2009 12:41

I'm horrible. I hang up

SydneyB · 30/03/2009 12:44

I feel sorry for them to be honest. Once read an article about how grim it is to work in those call centres. They are constantly listened in to and under so much pressure and some suffer from awful stress at the abuse they receive. Hate them too but try and be polite and cut them off quickly. Now, the ones that REALLY annoy me are the automated computer voices..

If you subscribe to the Telephone Preference Service (its free) it should cut down a lot of the rubbish.

Ha! Space Designs call up 4 times a week. I am, apparently, entitled to a free kitchen!!! WOW!!!! I ask all about it, then inform them I am a council tenant! They are very quick to get off the phone then!

I did tell them perhaps it's a waste of time to keep ringing, but no, they always ring back!

Actually it's very annoying, last time I gave DS (10 months) the phone and let him babble into it! I have no idea how long she 'spoke' to him for!

FairLadyRantALot · 30/03/2009 12:59

lol stretch...

oh and Sydney....you see the automated calls, whilst it is annoying to pick it up, so much easier to jsut hang up on those...so, done in 1 second flat...

def subscribe to TPS here - will cut down on these calls. and you can tell them you are registered - so they shouldn;t be calling, they hang up pretty quick then!

LucyTownsend · 30/03/2009 13:31

I tend to answer the computer ones and wait until I can hear this tinny little voic saying "Mrs Townsend? Hello? Hello? Is anyone there?" and then hang up just so that they can see how annoying it is too.

Or answer it and then say "oh, sorry, can I put you on hold for a moment?" and then leave them however long they want to wait!

LucyTownsend · 30/03/2009 13:31

oops! VOICE!!!
