To not want to be used as a creche

When I am 8 months pregnant and trying to clear the house ready for the builders to move in and start work in two weeks' time? My BIL came round with his two DCs aged 3 and 6 to help DH do some gardening. They 5 kids were left for me to babysit while the dads were busy in the garden.

I am trying to clear rooms out and box things up to take to storage, while looking after my 3 DCs (5, 4 and 2). I really could have done without having two extra to look after. It felt as if more mess was being created than I could tidy, and that was without trying to spring clean for the renovations to begin!

Sorry for moan. Felt the need to get it off my chest or else my OH will surely be subjected to it for the rest of the day and, in his defence, he just wanted to get his gardening done and his brother happened to be free today to come over to help.

Ahh - that feels better already!

Next time send the kids out to "help" the Dads.

I second that emotion!

Next time remember the important visit you simply have to go to and leave the house, alone!!
Let them look after all of the kids, it will probably work wonders.

All noted for future reference - many thanks. Although I have bitten his head off about it enough times that I think he has got the message now. Problem is, of course, that men don't supervise kids quite like women tend to and "mess" is construed in quite another way to them. And then there is the fact he has no idea what being heaviliy pregnant is like, and he has absolved himself of all responsibility for getting the house packed up in order for renovations to begin (his "Responsibility" being Work).

If only both men and women were from Venus .

Must stop all of this negativity and get packing...
