sorry I know this isn't really the right place!

But how much do I pay our 18 yr old neighbour to come and babysit for 2-3 hrs while baby is asleep and we go down the road for a pizza?

We live in Leeds.

We've got the son of a friend of ours in tonight to babysit. Will prob be 3-4hrs and we'll pay him £10 and a big bag of Haribo We weren't sure what to pay either but his parents helped us out and told us. Maybe have a quick word with your neighbours and see what she gets elsewhere?

Thrifty · 27/03/2009 17:56

we pay about £5 an hour. more if she has to play with ds or put him to bed. (he's 3 though). I should think £15 would be fine. plus snacks and drinks. why dont you ask her how much she wants?

mummy2isla · 27/03/2009 17:58

I asked her mum and she said that she had no idea what the going rate was or how much she'd want. The baby will be fast asleep and hopefully not stir so it'll just be a case of sitting watching tv with the monitor on. Have chocolates etc ready.

We have a local lad that sits for us we pay him £5 per hour although if we are just a little over 3 DH tells me to give him £20 and if we are slightly over 4 he still gets £20 so it evens out. He is younger than 18 though.

screamingabdab · 27/03/2009 17:59

The going rate round here (London) is about a fiver, and a lift/escort home if necessary.

mummy2isla · 27/03/2009 18:03

Well we're oop north and she lives opposite. I guess maybe I'll say £15 the evening and be out about 3 hours. Could always pop to the pub for a sneaky one after dinner, hey!

LaQuitar · 27/03/2009 19:27

£5 in London?
How old is the babysitter?

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 27/03/2009 22:28

Bloody hell we pay waaayyy over the odds then!!

We pay £30 for 4 hours.

Twistle · 27/03/2009 22:49

I pay a 19 yr-old about £5 an hour to look after 3 kids. She's been sitting for us for 4 years, when we only had 1 kid, and have moved up from about £3.50 an hour then.
