To expect a little more from Primark???

Have just come home from shopping trip from HELL to Primark on Oxford Street. Mistakenly thought first thing in the morning was the best time to go and find cheapy flip flops/beach dresses.

Queue for womens changing rooms was approx 60 people long - not an exaggeration - snaked round the entire store. Got to changing rooms to find only about half were being used.

As I has 9 items instead of the alloted 8 I was told I would have to queue all over again to try on the extra 1 - fume......

Then had to queue for another 15 mins to pay..

Yes - I shouldnt go in the first place...but wondering if anyone else has suffered similarly traumatising experiences???

My sister got in there 6 feet and turned right around.
Boy did I laugh.

I hate the Oxford Street Primark, it's always full of tourists with suitcases too. You cannot move.

Kimi · 26/03/2009 17:06

I thought it was like a massive jumble sale when I went in there, walked in and walked out... hate it

Lulumama · 26/03/2009 17:06

with a name like emmabridgewater, i can see why Primark and its modus operandi would flummox you

would have been quicker to buy all nine items and give away/ebay any that did not fit

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:08

Thanks for that Lulumama! I did consider it but thought during these credit crunch times I should persevere...

Used to live in there as a student but the one in Newcastle was a dream compared to Marble Bloody Arch.

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:13

I was in a Primark once and a child was sick over a pile of clothes. I've often wondered if he was some sort of clothes connoisseur or something and it was all too much

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:21

I love it! A mini Gok Wan in the making....

There are rules for shopping in Primark, especially the Oxford St one.

  1. Only shop on a weekday (Mon-Thur) and get there for store opening (9am, I think?). It's stupidness on Fri/Sat, lunch hours, after work etc. In fact, most of the time it is like the Notting Hill Carnival.
  1. Don't try anything on. Buy it and take it back if you don't like it. The queues to pay are long but move quickly.
  1. The Hammersmith one is nearly as big as the Marble Arch and not nearly as busy - go there next time!
EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:24

Has anyone tried the one in the Wandsworth shopping centre? Is that any good?

So why don't they have more changing rooms? There is obviously the demand for it and they would sell more..

I hate Primark - it's a total nightmare.

Lizzzombie · 26/03/2009 17:44

I once brought 2 pairs of tights, in the XL size.
I didn't realise that their XL size is for shorter/wider people and their L size is for taller/not so wide people.
I had worn one pair, meant to take the other pair back for ages and ages, but the customer service queue was always massive and untoddler friendly so didn't get around to it.

Eventually (over the stipulated 28 days later) I managed to take them back. All I wanted to do was to swap an XL pair for an L pair. Had the reciept, the bag, and they were unworn.

The nazi woman point blank refused. Just kept repeat robotic like "no, over 28 days, no, over 28 days, no, over 28 days" I was practically crying. I should have just grabbed a pair and swapped them over on the shop floor myself. But didn't dare in case I got caught.

I hate them.
I used to work there, it was the most awful job I've had in my entire life. Its managed by ego centric facists. (sp)

wotulookinat · 26/03/2009 21:12

Was it really worth taking them back to Primark? They wouldn't have cost much.

janeite · 26/03/2009 21:18

You are being unreasonable to expect anything at all from Primark imho.

boogiewoogie · 26/03/2009 21:54

You get what you pay for.

Why does anyone expect anything from Primark? Everyone knows that it's just a glorified jumble sale.

moondog · 26/03/2009 21:56

Made by indentured slaves in SE Asia may i add.
