To now expect my Tesco shop to be covered in bleach...

Just had my shopping delivered and not one but TWO bottles of bleach have leaked in it all
I called and spoke to a lovely lady who said they would refund but I still have to go and replace all the fruit and veg, bread and so on....

Do you think anything in wrapping will be ok ?

Most wrapped things have little air holes in the plastic wrapping dont they?
TBH I would chuck out all the edible bits and just keep toiletries and cleaning products myself

Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:04

That should be NOT

A good wash may sort out the fruit and veg. If it's just bleach, I mean it can't be worse than swimming pools and other chemicals they spray on fruit and veg anyway.

I would give a good wash and anything that still smelt badly of bleach discard.

If you have other stuff wrapped in bags - rinse the bag off thororughly and then check contents. I am sure some can be saved.

Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:05

What about frozen stuff and meats?

OP posts:

I would rinse in cold water - will give you a good idea what packaging leaks or not.

I mean frozen bags of stuff are normally airtight I think. But if in doubt open bags, sniff contents and decant into a new bag if it's ok.

same with meat - I have had soap and stuff leak on occasion and meat is normally securely wrapped - otherwise everything would be contaminated by salmonella etc.

I think most will be fine.

I know people that wash fruit and veg in milton - and that is pretty bleachy!

I think you need to phone them again and tell them that you are not happy about this and that you would like all the edible items replaced. I think its a disgrace that you have paid for food that you will be too frightened to eat or give to your children. It just isn't good enough. And if you do throw anything away why should you have to pay for it again? It wasn't your fault the items had leaked. Also you have paid for your groceries to be delivered to you and they should arrive in perfect condition.

Good luck. Let us know what you do

SerendipitousHarlot · 26/03/2009 14:16

There is no way I would be schlepping back to the supermarket to replace that stuff

I'd be on the phone telling them that they can bloomin well come out and bring me more stuff!

AND I would like about what was in the leaky bags... nice bit of fillet steak, I reckon

Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:17

There is no way they can replace the whole order today I have taken stuff out of packets now anyway as much as I could I just think it is really bad service and very inconvenient that I now have no fruit, veg, bread and so on after doing over a £100 of shopping

OP posts:
SerendipitousHarlot · 26/03/2009 14:17

lie, I mean, obviously

upagumtree · 26/03/2009 14:22

Kimi, I would still phone and tell them that you are not happy and ask them how they will resolve this issue for you? It's a disgrace! I had a similar issue with asda. They didn't have another van in the area so the manager delivered my shopping personally in his own car. Result! Honestly don't let this go!

I am having a really shitty day today, DS2 is poorly, I had to go to school with DS1 as I had a meeting with his head of year as he is being bullied and she forgot and did not turn up, so I had a wasetd bus ride each way, DP had to go to work late as he was watching DS2, my sister phoned to say my mother has not been taking her tablets and refused to go to hospital today and has run out of insulin so I have to sort that out....and now I have a kitchen stinking of bleach and a black bag full of useless food..... Please shot me now.

Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:35

OP posts:
lilacclaire · 26/03/2009 14:39

Get back on the phone to them now.
Explain that you want the shopping replaced by delivery and they can compensate you for your trousers which you can pass to the delivery driver if they want to take a look at them.

upagumtree · 26/03/2009 14:41

ditto what lila said. Sorry your having such a shitty day

Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:41

I am on the phone as I type... I am cross now

OP posts:
Kimi · 26/03/2009 14:49

Ok waiting now for them to call me back as they have to speak to the store manager....
I am now going to mop a bleach drip trail off the floor I wonder if it has leaked in to anyone elses shopping as they are all stacked on top of each other?

OP posts:
upagumtree · 26/03/2009 15:36

glad you've phoned them back. Keep us up to date

Kimi · 27/03/2009 13:31

Still waiting to hear about my trousers.

Got the shopping refunded (well the stuff that was ruined)

OP posts:
upagumtree · 27/03/2009 15:49

Result! I'm glad you persevered. Also let us know what happens with the trousers
