To be annoyed at DH that car just failed its MOT on such a minor flippin thing

DH works away so everything is left to me to sort. He is a trained mechanic, and knowing MOT had to be done I asked him at weekend if he would check car over to make sure it would pass. Says he did. Car failed this morning, a bulb had gone on the rear registration plate and front headlight too dipped.
I didn't want to pay them an unreasonable amount of money to adjust and replace bulb so DH will be doing it this week end. Just sick of him leaving everything (except going to work) to me. I know nothing about cars except where the key goes, surely he could take a little responsibility for something when I have to look after 2 kids, house and huge garden and he comes home each week end and does nothing. We are going to visit my Mum in Spain next week, he won't be home till evening before we fly, so rather than sort out his packing this weekend, he has told me I can pack his stuff, the girls stuff and my stuff. Am fuming

  1. technically the bulb could have blown between him checking it and the test
  2. Tell him to leave out the clothes he wants to take and you will pack them.

Its hard to tell if the lights are too dipped, unless they were drastically out. That's why MOT stations have all their special equipment - same with emission testing there would be no way any of us would know till our car was tested. Like soupdragon said the bulb could have gone afterwards? Its actually hardly anything- you should be quite pleased it must be well looked after to only have that little wrong, honestly.
I reckon you should get maybe a free retest on such little things if its your good local garage, we would!
My car broke down and I married the mechanic, since then my car never ever gets fixed, but at least I always know what's wrong ith it!
Its tough when they leave us with everything to do though.x
