a Mothering Sunday present, but I would have liked him to take the DC to a shop and let them choose something they thought I'd like. It is Mothering Sunday after all and not Wife's day.

He said but you probably end up with a sherbet Dip Dap and a bar of chocolate. But I would prefer that much more then some gift choosen by him....

AIBU?

YANBU. He should have taken them to the shops so you could have a break and do something you want to do.

As it is, he's probably having a great time on his own, looking around HMV or wherever.

GrinnyPig · 19/03/2009 10:26

Surely Mothering Sunday is all about a home made card and a bit of burnt toast in bed.

VinegarTitsCoveredinChocolate · 19/03/2009 10:26

No YANBU he is just being lazy, even my xp took ds to the shops and let him choose a card and some choccies for me

Nabster · 19/03/2009 10:29

I think you are being a bit unreasonable. It seems sometimes men can't win.

VinoEsmeralda · 19/03/2009 10:34

Nabster- that is exactly what he said (about getting it right). But I fondly remember the hours spent in our local shop to buy my mom something 'special'. She kept some of the 'special' things and they are truly horrid but choosen to please my mother and she loved it for that reason.

And yes Grinnypig I agree home made card and burnt toast is what Mothering Sunday is about!

Yes but aren't the kids missing out on choosing something and doing that special thing for her too. I'

Fairynufff · 19/03/2009 11:08

Agree with Nabster. You are a bit ungrateful IMO

EdwardBear · 19/03/2009 11:11

Depends why he's doing it that way and only you can tell that.
If he just didnt think too hard and thought 'ooh better get vino something nice for sunday' then YABU
But if he decided it would be easier and more relaxing for him to go shopping on his own rather than take the kids even though he had an inkling that they might like to be involved then YANBU!

mayorquimby · 19/03/2009 11:18

yabvvvu he's out buying you a present. poor lad can't win.

megandtyler · 19/03/2009 11:21

Burnt toast in bed is great, until you wander down to the kitchen later and see the mess that has been left for you to clear up.

tattifer · 19/03/2009 11:28

I got a mega size bar of toblerone this morning from 11 yr old daughter - chosen herself and given early because I'm off work poorly she'd wrapped it and every thing and gave it to me over burnt eggy bread!

megandtyler · 19/03/2009 11:29

ahh bless your ds tatt

savoycabbage · 19/03/2009 11:30

Two years ago my dh said

'am putting dd to bed early tonight so I can make your mother's day card'

I was speechless.

tattifer · 19/03/2009 11:34

are you still waiting for the card?

mamas12 · 19/03/2009 11:41

Aw Tattifer how lovely.
The best mothers day gift was the first after we split up, the two dcs made me a cd with my fave tracks on and a picture of them and me on the front. I was soooo touched as we only moved in here one month previous and didn't really know how to handle it as I didn't want to phone ex and say um sre you helping them get anything did I? So special.

tattifer · 19/03/2009 11:45

that's sooo sweet Mamas12. Lucky you

piratecat · 19/03/2009 11:48

is it becuase he hasn't got the time/opportunity tho, do go with the dc's? tbh yabu, he can't win. How old are the dc's?

I have to take my own dc to a shop.

VinoEsmeralda · 19/03/2009 16:50

Mamas12 that is such a nice idea!

My DC are 3 and 5 and DH doesnt want to take them shopping together so he does it himself and that is what I find annoying (he isnt working so plenty of time). I am not ungrateful that he is buying a present but I'd rather have a sherbet/lollipop choosen by the DC then something he has choosen IYSWIM perhaps I am unreasonable
