to be fed up of people thinking they can just touch my bump without even asking?

Clearly I don't mind DP or Dc touching it, or even my best friend for that matter but I get a bit fed up of other people thinking they can just start rubbing my tummy without even asking!

Work colleages, my nextdoor neighbour, but The final straw was this afternoon when picking DC up from school. Another parent who I have never even spoken to before came up to me asking how far I was and starting touching my tummy before i could even answer

People don't do things like this before you are pregnant so why is it that as soon as you sprout a baby bump some people suddenly think you are public property!!!

YANBU

When I was on hols recently, I got in a lift and a woman asked me what floor. When I said One, she said 'oh you're a lazy girl' then I said, well I'm quite tired from walking around all day. It was then she noticed my bump, and patted it saying, 'oh well I s'pose it's alright in your condition'.

How rude.

I hate anyone going near my stomach when not pg, it makes me really uncomfortable. But most people wouldn't touch your stomach in 'normal' circumstance, so what give them the right when you're pg?

Just wait 'til after the baby's born... then strangers will start prodding and poking the baby instead

suwoo · 18/03/2009 16:55

It really doesn't bother me . This is my third and DH hasn't felt any of them kick- he isn't a lover of the pregnant form.

Aeschylus · 18/03/2009 16:56

my wife hated it as well, we use to have complete strangers touching her in Tesco's. even her students use to think they had free rein.

I am sure people think baby bumps are public property

JeanPoole · 18/03/2009 16:57

they think your public property when PG.
its all. your big/small whatever.

i feel your pain.

blissa · 18/03/2009 17:06

memoo · 18/03/2009 17:13

I have a rule - if you're gonna handle the goods when they're ex-utero, you can handle them when they're in-utero.
Otherwise - piss off!
I'm 36 weeks now, and quite small, and I've had people (quite rudely on occasion) rubbishing my due date - I think a scan's pretty definitive.

suwoo · 18/03/2009 17:25

I'm the opposite, I'm mahoosive and I've had all the 'are you sure', 'is it not twins' 'god aren't you massive' type comments. I will punch the next one who says it.

Tee2072 · 18/03/2009 17:49

Next time someone touches your bump, touch their tummy back. It gets you the most interesting looks. And they'll never touch another bump again!

JeanPoole · 18/03/2009 18:36

lol tee, yeah and wobble it say, oh your getting porky aren't you lol

memoo · 18/03/2009 19:57

Smack their hands away, thats what I did! I showed almost straight away so had months of it, by month 7 I had lost it and started slapping strangers hands away!

PootleTheFlump · 18/03/2009 20:25

Invest in one of these

Hawkmoth · 18/03/2009 20:29

YANBU!

I mentioned that I could feel movements (at 16 weeks) and 'MIL to be' had her hands all over my fat bits. Thank God she didn't venture beneath the hairline where it actually was kicking.

I'm making a t-shirt that says "DANGER - Do Not Touch - Interference May Lead To Death". I saw it on a fuse cupboard.

2rebecca · 18/03/2009 20:30

I never had this. I'm obviously much scarier than you. Someone touching me whilst pregnant would get the same response as someone touching me nonpregnant ie a loud outraged "what do you think you are doing?"

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 20:48

I think I must have acquired scariness since first pregnancy where people prodded me left right and centre everywhere I went . Not one person has touched me this time (or maybe I just smell worse this time - try washing less!)

Nekabu · 18/03/2009 21:31

I hope and pray nobody does this to me as I do tend to have a bit of an autopilot response to being unexpectedly grabbed or prodded. Erk ... I can see the headlines now ...

PrammyMammy · 18/03/2009 21:55

lol, this doesn't really bother me tbh. No one noticed i was pg with ds till about6/7 months, maybe that is why i don't mind it this time.

mamas12 · 19/03/2009 00:03

I love tee idea of doing it back. I wish i thought of that when i was pg. I also HATED it. There was one particular friend who really coudn't keep his hands off my bump, yes him, I had to have a word with his wife in the end and thank god she was totally supportive of me. Hooray and he apologised and I was able to relax around him. Ggrrrrr.
Aslo loved the Danger do not touch may lead to death idea Tee hee hee

pinkyp · 19/03/2009 00:15

tell em your not pregnant

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 00:16

YAsoNBU - I hated it too. Luckily I have a great Gorgon stare so very few people risked it.

AnguaVonUberwald · 19/03/2009 08:48

Someone touched my bump unexpectadly when pregnant - It was someone in the office who I didn't know! I was outraged and said so but they didn't seem bothered!

lauren61 · 19/03/2009 08:56

yanbu - i hate people touching MY stomach without asking or any warning, but worse is the comments people think they have the right to make,
"its not very big is it, you must be having a small baby" "ooh you can tell your carrying boy/girl" everyones a bloody expert, "god youve got big" oh cheers i already feel like a small african elephant just blatantly point out i look like one as well,

you dont see us pregnant people doin it to them, i think we should start giving it back grrr.. sorry for rant
