to feel a bit aarrgghh about sparring in karate?!

ds 7 does karate and for 20 mins at the end of session they do sparring[fighting in partners] with boxing gloves on which looks quite heated but is all about control.
So esp those of you whose dcs do karate aibu to not like the sparring very much?

I do karate myself. If it's any help, it sometimes looks worse than it is . I assume he wears a groin guard and leg pads as well?

It's all about control, as you said, and putting into practice the techniques he's learned in class. (And also, sometimes, a good way to let off steam!!)

What is it about the sparring that you don't like, exactly?

(BTW my ds1 did karate with me for three years. He LOVED the sparring. It was the rest he didn't like!)

no,no guards or pads,i don't think theres supposed to be any more than surface contact but he's very good at it [according to the sensei] and is taking it very seriously and looked quite hot and bothered.
