DD1 is doing dance and drama GCSE.

tonight they were taken to see a show as part of their coursework (to the tune of £15 cost to us parents)

anyhoooooooooooooo

she has come home telling me about all the naked people in the show.

I asked her what type of nakedness.

she replied full-on nakedness.

and there was swearing, altho she is 14, so not immune to that.

I have just looked up the show tho, and they should not have even been allowed entry.....

well at least it wasn't Ken Dodd

MelonCauli · 17/03/2009 22:33

If you were that concerned about what she would be watching you should have checked it beforehand. Also it is a bit much to complain about the £15. The teachers have given up their evening to take your daughter out to help her with her GCSE and you are moaning about it

MelonCauli · 17/03/2009 22:34

So YABU!!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 17/03/2009 22:34

Hmm. Did she enjoy it though?

SerendipitousHarlot · 17/03/2009 22:34

gemmie

BitOfFun · 17/03/2009 22:35

If it was Ken Dodd they'd still be there now Such good value

psychomum5 · 17/03/2009 22:35

she did enjoy it BTW, and said it was very well done, but I am cross that we, as parents, were not informed of the type of show and the fact that it contained nudity etc.

OP posts:
SerendipitousHarlot · 17/03/2009 22:37

Well... were you told which play they were going to see when you paid for it? Would you have not googled it out of interest?

cornsilk · 17/03/2009 22:37

Would you have let her go if you'd known?

BitOfFun · 17/03/2009 22:38

I know, Psycho- you and DH could had a wiggle in the livingroom for her and a few mates, made a fortune and made sure none of them thought about sex till they were at least 25

psychomum5 · 17/03/2009 22:38

I could not have made that choice, we were told the time and cost and where to meet, nothing else.

that it what I am cross at.

plus the cost, on top of other things we are required to pay out for, for their GCSE's, and when we query, they tell us that if they don;t attend then they lose marks and will get a lower grade. surely things like this should not be compulsary??

I am not cross per se about the show, if only I had been informed before and given the CHOICE.

tis the fact that the teachers have made a choice, and one that is, quite frankly, illegal going on that they were mainly 14, some 15..........none were the 16 they were supposed to be (altho they all do look it)

OP posts:
mumto2andnomore · 17/03/2009 22:40

I think they should have warned you that it was aimed at 16+ and given you the choice of whether to allow her to go or not.

psychomum5 · 17/03/2009 22:40

cornsilk, I would have let her go (I think).

tis hard to say now really isn;t it, after the fact!

bitoffun, I think had me and DH done that to them, there would be some very traumatised girls right now

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 17/03/2009 22:40

I'm sitting on the fence on this one. I think you probably should have been told if the show had a 16+ guideline and she is under 16.
Looking at the details though, I would have thought it would be quite a valuable experience for someone doing a dance and drama GCSE. So if it was my DD I would have let her go.

TaxiDriver · 17/03/2009 22:41

in year 6 dd did a dance on stage, as with other primaries and a couple of dance teachers - they said they were - did this very sexy and inappropriate salsa, you could see her bottom..

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 17/03/2009 22:42

I don't think it was illegal though Psychomum. The 16+ thing was guidance rather than a film classification type thing. Not sure live performances do have legal age limits.
Though I stand ready to be corrected at any moment

Thunderduck · 17/03/2009 22:42

Illegal? I can't imagine that what they did was illegal.

The guidlines are voluntary surely,at the theatre's discretion and not enforced by law?

LaundryFairy · 17/03/2009 22:43

The theatre gives an age guidance - these aren't like film classifications where there are legal rules about the age of people allowed to attend. I'm willing to bet that the teachers think highly enough of the students to feel that they are mature enough to go to that kind of event and appreciate it and behave in an appropriate way.

I think your daughter is extremely lucky to have seen such fantastic work.

psychomum5 · 17/03/2009 22:43

I am now feeling slightly sad.

asked DD if she thought that the bodies were any good (trying to get her take on the nudity).

she replied that ", they were okay I suppose, but they were really old".

I asked how old.

"dunno, 30ish I think"

@ 'really old'..............

LaundryFairy · 17/03/2009 22:43

x post Lady G!

Thunderduck · 17/03/2009 22:45

I don't think movie ratings are enforceable by law either.

psychomum5 · 17/03/2009 22:46

oh, not illegal then.

ok.....

she is happy enough, and on balance, she has seen worse in films going on what she said, and yes, was a very valuable experiance going on that this is her aim when she leaves school (professional dancing).

I think I am miffed tho that I had no info other than the time and date and price, and so was not given the chance to make that choice for my DD.
