At MIL's inappropriate use of the term "wet dream"

My ds1 (5) stopped over his nanna's last night. He does this every other week to keep her company. Today when I went to collect him, the first thing he said to me was "I had a wet dream last night"

I was and demanded to know what he meant, and where he had heard that term from.

The dragon in law piped up saying that he had had a wet dream last night, it was no big deal and that she told him he had. After a few minutes of asking her what she meant by it, it turns out that it WASNT a wet dream in the sense that everybody else in the whole of the world knows it, he actually wet the bed.

I am so glad I didn't have to explain what the other was, but really, she could have used a more appropraite term!

I think MIL's are on another planet! Mine's equally as nuts bad.

notnowbernard · 15/03/2009 20:38

MAybe she doesn't know what the other version of a 'wet dream' is?

YABU

I would have found this amusing

  • perhaps you could tactfully explain to her what a wet dream is.

DH asked her if whe knew what one was, and she said she did. She classes both as the same as they come from the same place She is just bonkers and plainly as mad as a box of frogs!

snort! Does she actually know what the term means or has she just heard people using it and made up her own meaning?!

I agree - I think there is only one meaning for wet dream and it's nothing to do with wetting the bed!

notnowbernard · 15/03/2009 20:40

She does sound a bit bonkers

PottyCock · 15/03/2009 20:40

roffle

I don't envy you that conversation!

screamingabdab · 15/03/2009 20:40

I think that's really funny. Her naivety is quite sweet

5inthebed · 15/03/2009 20:43

I wish she were naive. No she actually does know what a wet dream is. Apparently DH had them all the time. In her defence, she is very old fashioned and in her 60's.

I think it's funny.

My Gran likes to play around with the remote control and seems to take forever to change a channel, if I ask her what she's doing, she says ''just playing with myself''

I've tried to convince her that isn't the best phrase to use, but have had little luck.

theyoungvisiter · 15/03/2009 20:44

Hmm! Well perhaps you could tell her that you like to refer to burps as blowjobs as they both emanate from the same place?

nametaken · 15/03/2009 20:52

LOL at theyoungvisiter - I was gonna suggest similar tactics myself

5inthebed · 15/03/2009 20:57

Oh no! I never thought of that one! Dialing her number as I type.....
