Hi all..

We have an 8yr old DS and a 7 week old and really at the minute everything seems to take a lot of planning and effort, even getting out to the park for an hour or two.

Every weekend seems to be the same with friends or relatives just turning up just as we're ready to go out.
I appreciate people making the effort to come and visit but I'm starting to feel a little resentful at having to postpone my plans, however crap.

I have tried telling them to ring before to see if it's okay but it seems to go in one ear and out the other...

then you stick to your plans. Be assertive.

"Oh, we are just going out, sorry. You ought to have phoned first." And GO OUT!

However, those times when you were just going to the park for example, is it really a big deal? It's not an appointment or arrangement with someone, is it? Could you be flexible if it really doesn't matter? Or say "We are going to the park, you are welcome to come with us if you want to."

Next time they turn up uninvited and you're ready to go out....go out! Tell them sorry we're on our way out. Phone next time!

I would love for family and friends to just pop in, no-one ever visits me, arranged or not, but can understand why you would find it annoying if it happens a lot.

Agree with Hecates on what to do next time. Invite them along.

yup, Geepers, me too. I used to have people popping in for coffee, and a couple of friends dropping in of an evening would turn into a party..now we've moved and haven't really made the same type of friends, iyswim, and it's lonely. I'm a bit jealous that someone could have so many people wanting to spend time with them that they are actually fed up of it!

Oh no...don't get me wrong, I really do appreciate people calling in, I didn't get any callers before DS2 was born and would have loved it!
Its just that I am bf-ing on demand and havent braved it getting my boobs out for public viewing yet so am trying to get out when he's asleep.

Anyway thank you for your comments and you are right...I'll invite them along next time!
