To tell a bloke in Asda to F*ck Off?

Was minding my own business in Asda, kneeling down to pick up some bread on the shelf only to have a bloke ram his trolley against me, making me topple over. I'm 9 weeks pregnant too. I struggled up from the floor and looked at him and said "excuse me". He screamed "I said excuse me to your husband". He thought a random bloke doing some shopping nearby was my husband (he wasn't!) Why he thought saying excuse me to him rather than to me was acceptable I don't know. The bloke came over stared aggressively at me and told me I needed to watch what I say, I could see such hate and anger in his eyes. My blood was boiling at this point and my back was sore from where he'd scraped past me so I lost it (normally I try and avoid any confrontation...) and told him to F Off. I think it worked though as he just stormed off and didn't say anything. Feel a bit shaken up by it all to be honest though, I had visions of him waiting for me outside the store to beat me up... I wish I'd kept my cool to be honest, will be worrying about it now for the rest of the day.

Poor you! Have a cuppa and a slab of cake.

Many would have done the same in your shoes so don't get too stressed at having sworn. Would like to think I could have thought of elegant high moral ground answers and lines for him, but I very very much doubt it!

Deanna1977 · 14/03/2009 16:26

Oh bless. Don't let it bother you. I am exactly the same & get upset about confrontation. Forget about the rude idiot. Have some chocolate & put your feet up!

Nemoandthefishes · 14/03/2009 16:27

aww poor you
try not to worry about it

wabbit · 14/03/2009 16:29

He pushed you over with his trolley and you're worried that you told him to 'Fuck off'?

He deserved it!

undomesticgodess · 14/03/2009 16:44

I would be worried too after that confrontation but it is very unlikely that anything will come of it! I hope you are ok?

He sounded like a twunt. Actually, you could report him for assault.

JazzHands · 14/03/2009 16:47

Better than how i would react ie bursting into tears

Nabster · 14/03/2009 17:13

He is a prat.

Why would he say excuse me to someone else instead of the person who is where he wants to be? Clearly thinks women belong to their men.

Don't give this idiot another thought.

vjg13 · 14/03/2009 18:39

I think you both sound out of order, telling somone to F* off in the supermarket isn't the greatest either.

Good for you!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 14/03/2009 18:47

I would have hoped to have found a more elegant retort than f*ck off - if only to retain moral high ground . However, in reality I prob would have reacted the same as you.

And who does he think he is to confront you in such an aggressive manner telling you to "watch what you say"? WTF was he going to do about it? Pathetic little man.

Have a mahoosive hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows with a slab of your favourite cake on the side.

vjg13 · 14/03/2009 18:47

How could he tell she was 9 weeks pregnant ??
I

curiouscat · 14/03/2009 18:48

Shame you didn't push him over as well

wotulookinat · 14/03/2009 18:49

Even if she wasn't pregnant, he shouldn't have done it.

Dingbatgirl · 14/03/2009 18:53

I think your reaction is entirely understandable, as the RealMrsJohnSimms says it would have been nice to think of an assertive but elegant reply, but it's a bit difficult on the spur of the moment.

What a completely rude rotter! Try not to let it upset you, have a nice rest this evening.

BatmansWilly · 14/03/2009 18:53

you should have kicked him in the knackers. Sounds like a twat.

You handled it way better than I would have done!

FairyMum · 14/03/2009 18:55

Poor you. That's the sort of people you expect to meet in ASDA to be honest.

SerendipitousHarlot · 14/03/2009 18:57

fairymum, how judgemental are you?

vjg13 · 14/03/2009 18:59

I think you both sound like the sort of people I would expect to shop in ASDA.

Nabster · 14/03/2009 19:00

Not necessary, thank you.

Dingbatgirl · 14/03/2009 19:00

I have just done my weekly shop in ASDA!! Some very friendly staff and polite people there too. vjg13, is this a windup?!

wotulookinat · 14/03/2009 19:01

Oi, I went to Asda today so drop it

MadameCastafiore · 14/03/2009 19:01

He would not have known you were pregnant - you are 9 weeks not 9 months!

His behaviour was stupid and shocking but maybe as a mother to be you shold think of other ways to get across just how angry you are - because if you were in a shop near my kids and yelled fuck off I would ask you to please mind your language infront of my children. Something you will have to think about in a few years eh!

JazzHands · 14/03/2009 19:03

So my approach would have been better after all. As it doesn't involve swearing.

wotulookinat · 14/03/2009 19:04

I think if I was seeing red like that I would also have sworn, regardless of my son being there or not.
