ssd · 13/03/2009 08:13

they are just doing it to get on the telly - AGAIN

that lot on the apprentice last night
Jonathon Ross
Carol Voderman etc etc

is there anything they wouldn't do?

bet most of them give hee haw to charity the rest of the year

wish there was another way to put forward this cause without making it an ego trip for all the eegits

thank god for this bunch of "self promoting arseholes"
it is them giving comic relief a high profile that helps schools like dd's

Lizzylou · 13/03/2009 18:09

Spangle, I think that her fainting in the hospital, whilst obv made great TV , was prob a natural response. I am sure I don't know how I would react in that situation.

spangle1 · 13/03/2009 18:18

I'm sure it wasn't fake but compared to the suffering going on around her seemed so trivial and unworthy of attention.

The shocked reactions of naive celebs don't do a lot for me but I freely admit I'm a cynic!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 13/03/2009 18:20

SSD - we're you hidden in the back of my car, listening to me and dh today?

We ranted discussed this very issue for hours a while.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 13/03/2009 18:22

'we're'

ssd · 13/03/2009 18:51

"How much did YOU do for charity last year?"

I guess that was to me for starting this thread, well I give £20 a month to charity and I earn minimum wage (£5.73 an hour)

so am I allowed to be sick of the all self promotion?

anyway smartarse Pheebe, what did you do?

OP posts:
Divineintervention · 13/03/2009 19:38

ssd .... And how did your contribution raise awareness and millions for charity?

EssieW · 13/03/2009 19:42

some of you are very cynical - think it was fine to show Fearne fainting. Demonstrates how distressing that type of situation is and that the conditions in hospitals in Africa are upsetting. I've been truly horrified by some of the things I've seen there.

And some of these celebs do donate money to CR themselves or make arrangements to help some of hte people they've met. OK so I disagree with that - but they're not just in it for the publicity.

Ronaldinhio · 13/03/2009 19:52

yabu

anyway of raising money is a good way shurley?

the slebs are giving up their time freely in order to raise awareness and money.
Who says that it is done in a way that is purely self serving or self serving at all?...as long as the outcome is the right one then shurley the ends justify the means?

anyway just because they are in a "throw away" profession doesn't mean that they and their efforts are worthless or should be scruitinised anymore than anyones elses imo.

Their morals for all we know may be higher than any one's here but as we aren't in the heart of the individual we really don't know

bunch of moaning old vipers, shame on you

Pheebe · 13/03/2009 19:57

Personal abuse ssd??? Very immature! I'd ask mn to delete if I really cared about your opinion of me.

So you give a bit of money each month but what do you actually DO?? Do you raise peoples awareness of important issues? Do you inspire others to give money? The celebrities you're so quick to criticise do. Thats why I think this whole argument is pathetic and cynicaln - note I'm commenting on you 'opinion' not abusing you

Olifin · 13/03/2009 20:31

LOL at 'Carol Voldermort'

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/03/2009 20:36

What a mean spirited OP.

Without the celebs the millions of pounds would not be raised. End of. It's not about you and who you do or don't like.

chegirl · 13/03/2009 20:39

No one could possibly be talking about David Tennent though could they? Because I love him. Bloody hell he is kissing Davina McCall! Oh how I wish it were me

solidgoldbrass · 13/03/2009 21:08

So how much wankerishness do you think is forgiveable when it's for charidee? If, for instance, some people decided to dress up as golliwogs and dance down the high street to raise money for the Third World, would that be OK because of the money raised?
WRT Comic Relief, I wonder if (for instance) the porters lugging the slebs' moisturizer and beer up Kilimanjaro are expected, invited or indeed coerced to not get paid because it's a Good Cause? And if the slebs forego their appearance fees for Red Nose Day, how about the camera crews, runners, make up artists etc? Are they leaned on to work for free? Given that many of them earn fuck all anyway?

ssd · 13/03/2009 21:27

agree with solidgold, you lot seem suckered in by the all the crap
and why ask me what I do? what does anyone bloody do except set up a standing order to a charity and donate as much as they can?don't compare me to Carol Voderman and the likes, she is obviously such a giving, generous person to agree to be on the telly supporting comic relief with no thought about putting herself out

OP posts:
Divineintervention · 14/03/2009 07:37

Yeh, what a bunch of self serving wankers helping to raise £57 million....shame on them

ssd · 14/03/2009 08:22

they are in it foir self promotion, plain and simple

people donate because of the awful pictures/stories, not because of the slebs

OP posts:
BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 14/03/2009 08:32

if that were the case ssd, why don't the distressing advertising campaigns bring in that much?

thean · 14/03/2009 08:32

Using celebrities can increase the amount of money that is donated each comic relief. I wonder how much would be raised if it was just you or I standing there asking for money. Unfortunatly we live in a society of the celeb and if using these people to help people who are nowhere near as lucky as themselves works, i support it. (Although i do think Ricky Gervais should be banned)

Pheebe · 14/03/2009 08:33

You are so wrong ssd et al and you're arguments are based on opinion, supposition and conjecture not fact and I see you are not to be swayed. Discussions are sooo boring when the other parties are not open to any ideas except their own

Peachy · 14/03/2009 09:37

£57 million pounds anothre twent million expected one million mosquito nets

and we'rescomlpaining about some slebs?!?! FGS!

It's bloody amazing.

If I were close to the studios and had yused my make up artist qual since gaining it I would be mroe than happy to do it for free and I earn a darn sight less than the minimum wage!

I think its amazing. It wouldn't be possible without the slebs; that might be a damning indictment of our society (and I am the least sleb worshippy type there is), but those oor kids can't sit around and wait whilst people try and chancge the way our society operates.

I had a big row with DH last night when he said it was all a waste and 'their problem' and I actually think a little less of him today than yesterday- because the ability to help is a gift, it really is. We have health problems we go to the hospital; we lose our job there are benefits; we want an education...

bloody hella re we lucky!

Right off to the zoo, to enjoy the kids that I am lucky not to have died giving birth to (and I would have, with ds1) and who are unlikely t contract a deadly disease in their sleep tonight.

friday32 · 14/03/2009 12:37

Iabsolutley agree i was saying this to my daughter last night but she would not believe me.It is all self promotion and is disgusting i wonder how much they personally donated!

WorzselMummage · 14/03/2009 12:45

I couldn't give a toss why they did it really, it doesnt really matter does it ?

APerson · 14/03/2009 20:47

YANBU - I doubt any of the celebs have donated to comic relief. They are on the show to make themselves look good. as for the climb celebs, when you take into account air fares, crew salaries etc, I bet the amount they raised isnt that much. I doubt they did the whole thing tbh, there's something suss about it all...cheryl cole looks like she'd die after a few miles of walking, she's that skinny. Clever filming/editing perhaps?

2shoes · 14/03/2009 21:09

who gives a fuck
look at the money raised...
