Perhaps I'm being a curmudgeonly old thing now I'm 32...But I have a couple of distant relatives on FB who are late teens and their profile pictures range from ridiculous pouts to suggestive pseudo soft porn type poses.

Oooooh, I do just sound old and petty don't I - I just see some of these pics sometimes and swing between scorn and downright squirmishness.

Go on - tell me if ABU.

YANBU - my 18 yr old cousin's profile pic is just like this - soft porn complete with fag in mouth. I think NICE, and your parents are paying for you to attend Marlborough...

Yanbu.
There was a radio 4 programme about htis the other day
I think it's part of the whole over-sexualisation of young women thing that seems to be the norm these days.

MrsMattie · 10/03/2009 19:49

My teenage cousins are just the same. It's cringe-worthy.

beanieb · 10/03/2009 19:52

Depends on their privacy settings. If they have set them so randoms can't see then fine but it is a bit dodgy if their profile is searchable by anyone. Trouble is that as their 'friend' you have no way of knowing as you will only be able to see it as a 'friend' would.

bohemianbint · 10/03/2009 19:52

I mean - and tell me objectively - is pouting supposed to be sexy, because I don't see it. Half the time I think it just looks like the pouter has come straight from the dentist and is waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off.

Some people can pout, I suppose, Angelina perhaps. Others less well endowed in the lip department just look mildly absurd, IMHO.

(Wow, I think am turning into my Gran. )

I went out recently in town pub (smallish not Ministry or anything) and there was a young girl (doubt if she's even 18) on the dance floor in her vest and pants!!!

Hulababy · 10/03/2009 19:54

I have some younger cousins on FB too, mainlu late teens and early 20s. Some of their photos and also their comments on FB are rather eye opening!

Mspontipine · 10/03/2009 19:55

Some of the young pouters are very pretty and I'm incredibly of them but they're so samey! It's a bit daft.

bohemianbint · 10/03/2009 20:03

They are pretty, and I sort of think, well fair enough; if you were on a dating website and wanting to pull someone entirely for the sake of a shag - but there's other older members of my family on there as well and I just think it's a bit cringey, I'd die if I thought people I knew were looking at pics of me posing like that.

Then again, if I was doing that on FB I expect DH would have something to say about it.

YANBU - I find this whole thing quite creepy. 11 year olds in their bra is taking things too far!

I hate the fact that so many teenage girls seem to think that the way to get on in life is to look sexy.

hell yeah - but not on the internet in front of family and friends...I think that's the crux of it really. At least when if I was ever like that the audience was probably limited. And drunk.

I have noticed the same thing as well. But it does scream out I am a teenager and self conscious. I bet I would have done the same.

SalBySea · 10/03/2009 20:39

I think most young girls have those kinda poses (sadly!)

I am FB friends with a few younger cousins / friends daughters / young girls from work, ranging from about 16 to 21 and they all have smouldering web-cam type profile pics

I dont like them much either but they all have em so what can ya do?

haha cmon surely your all just getting old, teenagers do inappropriate things. it's their raison d'etre.
kind of like the saying "if it's too loud, you're too old"

BatmansWilly · 11/03/2009 09:56

My 13 year old neice has some very suggestive photos on her facebook she looks about 18 in them.

OatcakeCravings · 11/03/2009 10:04

I don't think its a case of getting old. 11 and 13 year olds posing suggestively isn't really on! 18 or 19 well thats totally up to them if they want to post cringeworthy photos they are adults!

mayorquimby · 11/03/2009 10:11

oops well the op said late teens. i took that to mean about 16/17 onwards.

11/13 would make me feel uncomfortable as well.
i coach girls that age and am starting to see this attitude develope in 1 or 2 of them

When they are younger I think really the parents should be stepping in (except that in most cases they don't seem to know...)

16/17 plus they are just reaching out to a wider audience with their teenage daftness hopefully by this point though, they are sensible enough not to let it lead them into trouble...

SusieDerkins · 11/03/2009 11:23

My mate's 13 year old dd is on FB. Her most recent pose is on all fours with not a lot on. My mate took her pc away and scrubbed her FB account. Frightening.
