So we're on holiday, nice sunny place. Relaxation etc ...

Neither me nor DH are particulary house-proud so as the days went on, the hotel room was becomming more and more untidy.

Until one day, DH came out of the bathroom and stood there surveying the room before saying:

"This room is a fucking disgrace ... How can you leave it like this?"

I looked around and this is what I saw:

Two matresses dragged from the beds onto the floor = This being a result of DH's playfight with the kids.

A brochure ripped into shreds and sprinkled all over the floor - result of a game DH was playing with DS

Dirty clothes all over the floor = ALL DH's and the kids.

Chair upside down - DH did this only minutes earlier.

In the bathroom ... a wet towel on the floor = FRom DH's shower

Wet swimming stuff in the bath - from when DH took the kids down to the pool ....

You get the picture yet it was apparantly MY FAULT that the maids had refused to tidy the room and it was MY fault that the room was in such a state

This is why I am beginning to seriously ponder the point of the male species.....

RustyBear · 08/03/2009 14:13

What did he say when you pointed out that it was all his mess?

hercules1 · 08/03/2009 14:14

OMG! Your hotel room was in such a state that the maids refused to tidy it? I would be so ashamed...

JumpingDizzy · 08/03/2009 14:14

So what did you say? Think I'd have gone for a walk and left him to it.

compo · 08/03/2009 14:14

yanbu

men eh?

go on a girls only holiday next time

Fairynufff · 08/03/2009 14:15

It was holiday humour presumably?

LucyEllensmummy · 08/03/2009 14:21

I would have absolutely agreed with him and told him you were off out for a walk with the girls and he best have it sorted by the time you get back!

what2donow · 08/03/2009 14:21

My ex used to say this a lot. Both at home and on holiday, and on occasion for there being a little as a few crumbs on the floor

This is (one of) the reason(s) he is now my ex.

Amusingly, his house now he lives on his own is always a total pigsty......

ilovemydogandMrObama · 08/03/2009 14:23

Where on holiday?

Need to know how other half live!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 08/03/2009 14:25

My room always looks like this if I stay in a hotel. Natural reaction to being cooped up in a small space with lively DD.

I always do the putting the bin thing in the corridor to let the maids know not to come in. Then I don';t have to be ashamed and have a mad clean up the day before we leave.

CoCoNutChoc · 08/03/2009 14:27

Egypt! Done cheaply, we're not part of the other-half unfortunately

I did point it out to him and he stumbled for words before saying "umm yeah I suppose you're right, it is mostly my mess"

So to be fair he did admit wrongdoing but it just goes to show how men still assume - even if subconciously that tidying is the women's responsibilty. It made me so cross.

And I was ashamed at the maids reaction but most of the carnage had only been done that morning (in my defence )

I dont think its the end of the world.

traceybath · 08/03/2009 14:32

Think i'd have had a meltdown to be honest. The mess would have driven me to distraction and lack of care for the furniture would really have annoyed me.

And then it apparently being your fault!! I jolly well hope he tidied up.

And the shame at the maids not tidying/cleaning the room because it was too messy

Habbibu · 08/03/2009 14:32

Ach - that's not fair. Maybe some men, but the sweeping generalisations are a bit much. My DH, and many of my friends' partners are nothing like this. DH tidies more than I do - to my shame - I think it should be about equal!

bubblerock · 08/03/2009 14:41

He should have suggested you all cleared up - not blame you for it! But, I'm pretty shocked at the way you treated the Hotel room, I know it's difficult to keep things tidy when living out of suitcases but chair upside down and mattresses on the floor??
