Not to want to be yelled at by ignorant pig when i am out with my DD and DP and Ddog!

We have just had a lovely walk along our beach - just the right weather, DD and DP on scooter and me there behind them (quite a long way).

Dog off the lead (small jr type) not bothering anyone with children (he used to do this and was kept on lead but doesn't bother now). Lots of other dogs off lead - loads, hundreds possibly, all happily meeting greeting and generally having fun. Its lovely to watch - my dog is a friendly little character.

So, my dog approaches some dogs on the lead - one of the dogs starts snarling (NOT mine!!) as is quite common with dogs on leads - my dog is a bit dim and thinks it a game so is bouncing around. The owner then starts bellowing at me to put my dog on the lead (by this time my dog had walked off anyway) that i was breaking the law by having him off lead on the beach. Which i know is not true as dogs are banned from that beach between may and september only. Its perfectly legal any other time. My dog wasn't bothering anyone else. Comes when called etc. So the guy gives it all "well we'll see about that" Gets his phone and calls who? The council, the police??? I just go and sit on the wall and say, call who you want, we'll wait!! WANKER!!!!!!! Its not my fault his dog is aggresive to other dogs and his wife goes into a panic. I think he might have an interesting walk today - thousands of dogs on the beach off the lead, with people with and without dogs/children enjoying watching them play.

I would have had my dog on the lead if he were a)bigger (i used to have rotties and only ever walked them off lead in the depths of winter as they are a bit intimidating. b) aggresive c)likely to approach children (i don't like this myself) or liable to be a pain and not come away from other dogs - he is none of these.

What a thoroughly unpleasant man!

Waits to be flammed, just ranting really - i know I ANBU

Well I feel less guilty for yelling at the owner now! And I really did scream at him as I was terrified.

Found out its an Antolian Shepherd dog which apparantly weigh 125pounds and stand 29" high. That must be 29" to the shoulder as its easily 4ft if you count the head. Its taller than my 8yo. It was actually on the lead but dragging its owner along behind it as it came for my dog snarling and growling.

MitchyInge · 08/03/2009 17:35

LEM - he was controlling his dogs by keeping them on leads!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 08/03/2009 17:36

Arf @ 'he was probably covering up his frustrations at not being able to control his own dogs'.

I think that takes the dog biscuit.

LucyEllensmummy · 08/03/2009 17:36

LEM hands out the chill pills to the posters and doggie biscuits to the dog - its been a lovely sunny day today! I for one enjoyed it.

Our dog has an extendable lead so it gives him a bit more freedome, but he's still under control.

bronze · 08/03/2009 17:38

"he was probably covering up his frustrations at not being able to control his own dogs"

but he was! he had them on leads

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 08/03/2009 17:38

But why didn't you call your dog away before it got close enough to make another dog snarl. Just because you like watching dogs interact doesn't mean everyone does. There's plenty of people on here who are dog lovers and owners who have said they don't like it.

My DD looked terrified of this vile pig shouting his mouth off - but hey, hes justified because my dog caused his dog to snarl

hundreds (or was it thousands) of dogs running about on the beach, off their leads
a nursery with an entrance 10 miles away

Did the other guy even really yell?

it's just so unfair to the dog on the lead, who was obviously on a lead for a reason

I think it's really important that you acknowledge that, it's just the same with children, you need to check with the owner whether it's safe/welcome to interact with their dog

LucyEllensmummy · 08/03/2009 17:46

paisley, are you honestly taking my figures literally??? Ten miles from the nursery?? Hundreds of dogs??? Well of course.....im absolutely telling the truth - i tied the dog up, got on the bus to pick DD up, so scared I was that there might be mumsnetters at the school ready to beat my dog to death for daring to breath the same air as their precious children.

Can you see what im doing here??

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 08/03/2009 17:46

I think most people have said that he wasn't justified in yelling LEM. But he is justified in being unhappy about your dog.

LucyEllensmummy · 08/03/2009 17:47

its what i do every time dittany - unless the owner makes it clear that there is a problem. He only had to say, oh, my dog doesn't like other dogs can you fetch him back - then i would have done just that. But he didn't he waited until my dog was about 3 miles away and said, PUT THE FUCKING THING ON A LEAD! In front of my DD!

half of the people who's dogs have problems with other dogs cause it themselves, getting all agitated etc tightening the lead - of course their dogs are going to think other dogs are a problem, their owners are blatantly terrified!

OP posts:
MitchyInge · 08/03/2009 17:49

(I feel strongly about this as I socialise/rehabilitate dogs for a living and part of the programme for some dogs is to walk in areas where other dogs go - to learn that they are no threat. That would have been quite a setback for one or two dogs I work with. It's a bit late once your dog has already run up to the other one! Ask first!)

i felt it my duty really mutt, to give everyone reason to sit here on mumsnet all of sunday afternoon posting about my irritant jack russel (type!) dog

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 08/03/2009 17:52

I love dogs - and I understand dogs - but it doesn't sound to me as if you have control over this dog? You are allowing him to go too far away from you, to interact with other dogs without being present to intercede and you didn't actually call him under control at all did you? With all that I'm not surprised the other person was angry.

This is not a dog bashing post - but the beach is a very exciting stimulating place for a dog and as an owner you have to be more alert for trouble there than somewhere very predictable.

LucyEllensmummy · 08/03/2009 17:52

enjoy!!!
