I know it's not really a big deal, but it has really pissed me off.

DH has been away for a week on business (business in a sunny destination, that largely involves a meetings over lunch/drinks by the beach ).

So, he texts me a couple of days ago asking me if there is anything I would like, as he is going to the local mall for the afternoon (oh, how hard he works!).

Money isn't flying around at the moment, so I didn't give him some great long list. All I asked for was one pair of jeans if the price was good (ie. better than it would be in a high street shop over here). I stated quite clearly that I wanted blue jeans in a US size 10, straight or skinny, not bootcut'. I had a baby 14 wks ago and have absolutely no clothes. DH knows how depressed I am about it...

Anyway, he returned this morning and has just given me a pair of bootcut - almost flare-like, actually - jeans . I didn't make a big deal about it, but I am pissed off that he couldn't just go up to the shop assistant and say 'I want a pair of size 10 skinny jeans, please'.

He has bought loads of stuff for himself and the kids, btw.

my dh goes into shops at every bday and xmas and says "my wife would like this. she is dark with green eyes" and he get them to help him. after the bday or xmas he will give me the tale of how "yvonne was so helpful, she recommended loads and gave me lots of free samples"
he has even grabbed an assistant and got her to try stuff on "you are about my wifes size"

wasabipeanut · 06/03/2009 13:18

You're being a little hard on him I think although I can empathise with your irritation.

My dh wouldn't have a bloody clue what different cuts of jeans are and how the cut is so crucial to the wearer. This is why I would never task him with buying them for me.

Ever.

kickassangel · 06/03/2009 13:20

i asked dh to bring me back nail varnish, either pink or gold.
i got beige and purple.

another time he 'didn't have time to go shopping' but came back with three pairs of jeans for him, trainers, t-shirts, cds.
he bought me a pot of cactus marmalade. i hate marmalade so much that it makes me barf.

castille, apparently shop assistants are scary, i have asked. how old is he, 4?

nickschick · 06/03/2009 13:22

My dh after the birth of ds2 went to mothercare to buy me a nursing bra .....no problem there you might say .......but.....he took one of my very old bras with him to get the sizing right.

ask for perfume or a specific named lipstick or face cream ie "clarins hydramax 30ml"
write it down
text him the name and tell himnot to delete it

cant go wrong

if all else fails "1carat diamond" usually works

DrTrillianAstra · 06/03/2009 13:28

YANBU to be annoyed that you gave specific instructions and he got it wrong (especially the makeup as he must have had to ask for it).

YABU to want skinny jeans
( because I can't fit my legs into skinny jeans, even though the rest of me is thin)

noonki · 06/03/2009 13:29

YANBU

that he didn't listen

but I went jean shopping and tried on about 20 pairs and they all looked rubbish, esp. postnatally when my shape is somewhat disproprtionate (biggest thighs in the world!)

MrsMattie · 06/03/2009 14:03

Ok, OK. I have calmed down now. Thanks for all your input.

Can I just ask, on a jeans-related question - do all you bootcut lovers wear boots under your jeans, then? That is a scary thought to me. I would definitely feel a bit too Anthea Turner in boots under bootcut jeans

Ah, if you're planning on wearing boots over your jeans then skinny is the way to go.

I don't really get the 'bootcut' thing. I love the jeans, but the name? I wear them with trainers, little shoes, heels, all sorts, but rarely boots.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 07/03/2009 06:27

skinny jeans look awful and the straight ones look really old fashioned, imo. if you think you'll ever look like someone's mum, it'll be in those buggers!! So bootcut nicer. again, just imo.

However re the dh thing...assuming he had any frigging CLUE what skinny/straight/bootcut actually were he would have gone into the shop, thought "what was it she said? What does that sign say? 'bootcut' ? ah, I know I heard bootcut, that must be it, I'll get those."

(and no. no boots under bootcut for me.)

harpsichordcarrier · 07/03/2009 07:19

yaba little bit u
it is hard to grasp these finer details ime. I buy clothes for dh fairly often and I invariably find myself standing in front of th rack going errrrrmmmmmm What size again??
I have to write it down or else it won't stay in my head
