to expect a little more than a poxy refund from Royal Mail

A few months ago we moved and we paid an extortionate amount of money to have our mail redirected - plus a handling fee plus a holding fee to hold our mail while the redirection was being set up.

To date we have had NO mail redirected. The redirection period is now up.

A while ago I challenged Royal Mail and over the course of weeks (not days) they finally realised that someone somewhere had forgotten to put up the card by my pidgeon hole that said to redirect the mail (or some other nonsense) so although I paid my money, paid my admin fes etc they still managed to NOT redirect my mail.

This morning I have had a cheque for the amount of a standard redirection charge. However, nothing for the admin fees or the holding fees and no mention about my post....bearing in mind the post contains for example DHs pay slips and also some credit card statements etc.

I am LIVID to say the least and think their measly refund is totally not proportionate to the damage they have caused - before I go shouting the odds to Belfast can you just tell me if I should accept the refund graciously or should I take this further?

Thanks if you got this far!

We had the same issue with them, didn't even get a cash refund but got lots of stamps and kept having the re-direction period extended for free.
They seem to have no concept of the hastle they cause by not redirecting the mail.

Oh god - so I could be in for a long haul if I want to take it further? Great......It'll be a nightmare trying to get copies of DHs payslips.....

Royal Mail really are crap. They messed up my redirection the last two times we moved house.

It really is a worry when your mail goes astray - have they never heard of identity theft? On my last redirection a new credit card went missing. Luckily no-one used it and got it cancelled.

In my case they sent me a book of 12 stamps as compensation! How generous!

Did you manage to get your missing post back?

You should DEFINITELY kick up a fuss and certainly should get all the money back you laid out, plus compensation for yout time spent sorting this mess out.

Good luck!

We asked them to arrange to collect all the mail that had been delivered to our old address (things were pretty acrimonious between us and the new owner, and all our mail turning up didn't help) and they said they did not have the resources to do that. Even when they finally managed to redirect most of the mail, they still managed to deliver 2/3 items a week to the wrong address.
Also make sure they have every possible variation of your name - we had listed our first, middle and surnames, but then discovered that it was beyond their intelligence levels to work out that ms firstname lastname and ms firstinitial lastname were part of the same redirection. We had to supply them with a list of every possible combination of names and initials in the end.
I really hope you get somewhere with complaining / compensation but from our experience I'm not evry optimistic.
