Okay, I know I'm probably opening myself to a slating here so have got my bullet proof vest on ready

DD1 (2.7yrs) was watching Charlie and Lola tonight and they had jelly. She then asked if she could have some jelly. I keep some in the cupboard, sugar free, v low calorie, for me if I get a sweet urge as on a diet. So, I got her out one of the jellies as a "treat" because she has been so good today. She started eating it really nicely with her spoon etc, but I got distracted with DD2 and the next time I looked up, DD1 had a big handful of jelly and was desperately trying to put it back into the pot .
Came to clean her up with a cloth and her fingers are all stained bright red .

Do I blame myself Charlie and Lola for giving her the idea (last night she wanted pink milk !), or the jelly makers ???

Blame the jelly makers, because they manufactured this dye-ridden crap. PS - sugar-free and v low calorie is never going to be good eating. If you have a sweet urge, it is much better to eat proper sweet stuff than additive laden rubbish. I won't tell you what to eat instead, that is up to you. However, look at the label and a have a good hard think about whether you want your DDs to eat it.

If you buy the jelly tablets and make your own jelly you can get some with natural colourings. I know the Hartley's one is and some of the Asda ones (we only have strawberry)

your choice is melted cow/pig
or additives, including aspartame.

jelly sucks

BennyAndJoon · 01/03/2009 23:54

Oh yes - you should obviously go out and get sheets of gelatine and combine them with organic freshly squeezed juice

but really - don't buy the low sugar stuff, and check the label in future

BennyAndJoon · 01/03/2009 23:54

and if you are like us jelly is only once in a while, so what the hell

HappyCrappy · 02/03/2009 00:04

BennyAndJoon - if you wish to have a laugh at the expense of organic /vegetarian folks - they wouldn't use gelatine as that is made out of cows' feet, mainly. They would probably use agar as a gelling agent, which is made out of seaweed.
PS - all jelly mixes/ready made jellies that you buy contain gelatine - cows' feet - yum.

HappyCrappy · 02/03/2009 00:28

Also jelly sweets - they contain nasty cow feet too. And marshmallows - just when you thought your hot chocolate was safe?
