My Ds loves fish - nothing wrong with that - fish are very good for you. However, DS wants me to buy "fish with eyes on Mum". I have no problem with this either as I am more than happy to do everything else once the fishmonger has gutted the fish for me.

Today though I did sprats for DS as this is what he chose at the fish counter yesterday - his 5 came to a grand total of 24p - so cheap to feed too.

However, I have had a big eeewwwww moment as once I had cooked the fish today he wanted to "touch the fish and pick the eyes out Mum" - he actually had the head and was about to do just that when I stopped him . I know boys are fascinated with how things work but even so this was gross.

Have I given him a complex do you think?

He is now outside "looking for insects" Yuck, yuck, yuck! I should have had a dainty girl.

he's just being inquisitive! nothing wrong!! take it as a good thing. when i dissected a heart at school years ago, my brother made my mum buy him one at the butchers too so he could fiddle with it at home!!!
How old is he? as long as he washes is hands properly he will have fun!
although i wouldn't want to watch...

Thunderduck · 28/02/2009 15:58

I'm a girl and would have done the same. I spent most of my time bug hunting and squashing and looking at insects under the microscope, when my friends were playing with their Barbies.

I think it's something to encourage, who knows he might have a future in science.

How old is he btw?

JollyPirate · 28/02/2009 15:58

He's 6

Yeah - might let him get on with it next time but no way can I watch.

When he's a little older, 8 or so I'd get him the horrid science books. He should love them.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/02/2009 16:00

I normally eat the eyes. Sorry.

lizziemun · 28/02/2009 16:56

Girls are just as bad.

DD2 18mths was playing nannies garden yesterday and took her a present of a worm .

Mind you i'm with you i can't fish with eyes in. I can't bare the thought of something watching me while i'm eating it.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 28/02/2009 16:58

Take him fishing and let him catch one for himself! My ds's love this.

reminds me of when dd was 6 and ordered whitebait at a restaraunt. She carefully removed all the heads and lined them up on the side of her plate.
