My friend whacked my dog

CoffeeColouredCloud · 25/02/2009 13:20

I invited my friend around this morning and she came wearing a woolen type coat. Anyway I have a staffordshire bull terrier dog who gets very excited when she sees new people and she kept jumping at my friend. I told her to get down but she was just excited. Then my friend said "Can you get her, she's ripping my coat".

She wasn't ripping her coat, she had just pulled it in a few places. Anyway I grabbed her and my friend sat down with a cup of coffee. We were just chatting at my dog suddenly got excited again and ran toward the sofa. I saw my friend roll her eyes so I called the dog back. She ignored me and jumped up on my friend and tried to sit on her knee. This spilt some coffee on the sofa and on her jeans. I shouted at the dog and she muttered "for fucks sake" so as the dog started toward me my friend bent down to put the cup on the floor and the dog turned back thinking she was playing and dived on her. At the point she just whacked her across the face the dog wasn't bothered but I still thought it was totally out of order so I said "there was no need to hit her" so she said "Look at my fucking coat, its all pulled, it's my only coat and its ruined". There was a few pulls on it but nothing noticable.

AIBU for being annoyed that she hit my dog when she was only excited? if she was biting etc I could understand but she was just trying to be friendly and my friend is SUPPOSED to be a dog lover

Train your dog.

You weren't controlling your dog so your friend probably felt like she had no choice.

Wizzska · 25/02/2009 14:54

Lol Threadworm.

OP, you are getting a bashing. Defend yourself or admit defeat. Unless you're off to Dog Borstal - in which case you are forgiven.

GColdtimer · 25/02/2009 15:00

You must be a troll. If you are not a troll I can't believe you can't even see that your friend might not have liked your dog jumping all over her - you show a blatant disregard for her feelings.

She shouldn't have hit your dog but then you should have controlled it. Staffies are powerful dogs and it worries me you have such little control tbh.

SobranieCocktail · 25/02/2009 15:47

you AND your dog sound awful. I would whack you both (in the gangster sense of the word).

SobranieCocktail · 25/02/2009 15:48

And you should definitely pay to get your friend's coat repaired/replaced.

Wigglesworth · 25/02/2009 15:53

YABU your dog sounds like a PITA, it would piss me off to have someones nutter dog jumping all over me, dog lover or not. I would be surprised if she was still your friend TBH. You should have controlled your dog or put it into another room if she gets that excited, better still train it!

TheThoughtPolice · 25/02/2009 15:53

OP, she should've hit you instead.

Train your dog properly

katiestar · 25/02/2009 16:08

YABU
I would have hit YOU too

JumpingDizzy · 25/02/2009 18:40

You lot still at it

This is obviously a troll or a rg who wants a laugh

Is this the same poster as all those other weird posts this afternoon do we think?

Very odd day...

I am a dog lover and have two myself, but I think YABU. No she shouldn't have hit your dog but TBH you did nothing to help the situation. The dog should have been shut out of the way if you are unable to control her. Sounds like your dog needs some training.

deste · 25/02/2009 19:35

Why has the OP not been back, tells you something doesn't it. Stop feeding her.

KingCanuteIAm · 25/02/2009 19:39

I think we were invaded by a group of teenagers with a "study period" or two in the ICT suite at school!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 25/02/2009 22:02

"My friend hit my dog" is pretty piss poor trolling don't you think?

Now, I walked in with the cuppas to find my friend giving the dog a blow job, that's trolling.

People just don't put the effort in any more. Where's the commitment to quality, folks? hmmm??

steviesgirl · 25/02/2009 23:29

YABU. A dog should know it's place and I think people who expect guests to put up with a dog harassing them are very rude and inconsiderate.

She came round for coffee not to be molested by your dog. When your dog jumped on her it probably scared her and her automatic response was to hit out at it and I don't blame her!

HMC · 25/02/2009 23:30

CoffeeColouredCloud,

I have 2 dogs, but I am totally on your friend's side. Have you no control over your dogs?!?

Alambil · 26/02/2009 00:01

Train your dog.

Or, suffer the consequences.

Easy, really.

skramble · 26/02/2009 00:05

What no OP reply yet?

Anyway, what I hate is when you are in someones house and the dog is sniffing around and basicly sticking its nose in your crotch, so you try to subtily shove it away and then doggy owner asks in all innocence. "Oh don't you like dogs?"

"Actually I don't mind them when they don't have their snout in my fanjo, thanks very much!"

YABU! There is nothing worse than an untrained dog. If you can't control it you should not expect other people to put up with being jumped on. For many of us it's extremely unpleasant and is about as unwelcoming as you can be to a guest.
There is no excuse - train your dog or keep it outside when you have friends, if you want to have friends!

sargent1976 · 26/02/2009 13:04

YABU. I would be mortified if my dog ruined someones coat and knocked coffee over them. Your friend asked you to get her off and you didn't. I don't think she had a choice. You could tell she was getting annoyed so you should have put the dog away.

Your friend should be the one posting:
Am i being unreasonable in asking my friend to compensate me for the pulls in my woollen coat!

cory · 26/02/2009 13:08

Hecate is right; the effort is just not there. Can anyone direct me to the other threads so I can see if this is an overall poor job?

QuintessentialShadows · 26/02/2009 13:11

It is not the dog that needs training, it is YOU.

If this is not a troll, I hope you have paid for a new coat for your friend?
