to think coloured contact lenses are a bit freakish, and mildly dishonest?

....I'm all for ladies changing hair colour and all that...
...but I do find changing eye colour a bit freakish. Also, for some strange reason, I find it mildly dishonest to pretend to have bright blue eyes (or whatever) when you really have slate grey (or whatever)
AIBU???

I have blue eyes but have worn brown, green and hazel lenses in my time. I looked upon it as an accessory, in exactly the same way as I might dye my hair or wear makeup ..... i.e. another way to change my appearance (very slightly). If anyone ever asked, I always fessed up - so no dishonesty involved.

Some of the colours do look improbable but they're only a bit of fun - and the really vivid ones are quite obviously not natural.
Others have shading on them so look much more like real eye colours.

Personally, unless someone is wearing cats eyes, or bright purple, and you can't help but notice, I never take much notice of eye colour anyway.

Disclaimer: GDIT does not have any intention to offend any wierdly colour lens users out there - go for it!
Just interested in knowing whether the GDIT is BU in the above mentioned viewpoint!
If any offence taken GDIT promises to crawl off back to Dadsnet again.....

No offence taken by me !!

Guess the only way you'd be dishonest would be if someone had a "thing" for bright blue eyes (or whatever) and you made out you had them when you didn't ...... but not a hanging offence really.

my best friend used to wear very bright blue lenses and her eyes looked amazing - people always commented on how fabulous they were but she always admitted to them being lenses and not her own !

If I am honest and 'fess up, I once had a date with a girl with incredible blue eyes, and I spent a proportion of the latter (alcohol fueled) evening telling her how stunning they were. She never 'fessed up, and I later felt rather silly when I discovered they were not real. Crap date anyway :-(

I used to work with a girl who had dark brown eyes (and was in fact half Korean so would have looked 'right' with dark brown eyes) but wore blue contact lenses and the combination made her eyes purple. People who didn't know her name would say 'the one with the freaky eyes'.

The funniest thing was, she was never seen without the contacts, so we all thought she imagined that we believed her eyes were really that colour.

SamsMama · 24/02/2009 18:03

I think the blue ones always look odd, at least the ones I've seen anyway. No one has eyes that color.

On the other hand, it's annoying that I'm always asked if I wear colored lenses. My eyes are a weird shade, very light blue. It's not annoying that people ask, I guess, but I do get irritated when I tell them no and they don't believe me!

I always used to get asked if I wore coloured contacts, I don't, just have blue eyes.
Have always hankered after violet ones a la Elizabeth Taylor.
As has been said, no more dishonest than dying your hair/make up/padded bra etc

Morloth · 24/02/2009 19:02

The coloured ones are a LOT easier to find when you drop them on the sink.
