All the houses in our street have been getting new bathrooms and kitchens, and today new, bright red doors have arrived.

AIBU to want a new front door as well?

Need to clarify here.

Not "all" the houses, as if that was the case we would too.

Should be "some"....

No - why don't you get one too?

If you want a new front door, why not get one?

You're right! At least we have the option!

how come there is a rash of development on your street at this point in the economic climate ?!

I want a new internal front door (the one from the porch to the hall) as mine is butt ugly but it'll cost me £2k for the right door and a carpenter to fit it for me. A bit out of my range atm.

I also want a one of my windows in the enormous bay in my kitchen replaced by oak french doors, but again that runs into the thousands and my budget just doesn't stretch that far.

FWIW, a bog standard sized front door can be bought for as little as £100 (unpainted, unfitted and no door furniture)

oh we had this too at our old house
we lived in a council estate and all the houses that were still owned by the council got new bathrooms and kitchens

Compo's hit the nail on the head, a lot of the houses in the street are still council-owned.

Guess it is good for the people who live in the houses (no doubt they are replacing the original kitchens, bathrooms and doors), and for the businesses that "won" the contracts too.

(This is not a veiled attack on council-housing, it's just when I've seen new kitchens and bathrooms and now doors arriving for WEEKS, it makes me want the same )
