Three weeks ago they issued a ban card and pin as the one I ahd was playing up

It never arrived and finally after much ahrassment they searched the store and there it was.

But the PIN still ahsn't arrived and they won't order another.

Without it I cannot use my payments online so can't pay a bill I need to pa today.

Branch want to charge me £23 to do it for me, when it's ultimately their fault for refusing to re-issue PINa nd 'wait and see'.

Ia m fuming; I can't get at my money as I dnt have a photo ID (ama carer so chances of needing passport are very unlikely!) and now we might lose our half term break as I cant pay the deposit by transfer today- cant afford £23 fee on £93 bil!

DH was going to cover it if I transferred the money to his acocunt but they won't let me do that eitehr.

(NB I have money thi9s is ion no way a plea forcash!)

argh

Have a chat with your bank manager.. tell him/her the situation ( again).. you probably have other i.d etc.. and see if you can go into branch and do what you need to via them.

I had a stop put on and a new card issued and was waiting for a pin.. which didn't arrive.. in the end I went to the atm and just tried my old pin.. and it flipping worked!.. ( you get 3 tries before it eats the card). might be worth one try with your old number IYSWIM.

not sure if that's much help tho

YANBU.
You don't need photo id to get your money, bank statement and a utility bill in your name plus birth cert or marriage cert is more than enough id.

Email banking ombudsman, print a copy of the email, go to your bank and see the manager, give him a copy of the email "for his records" and inform him that you will accept a waiver of the £23 "fee" by way of apology.

Call your bank, go through to the complaints dept and make a complaint.

99% of banks have a policy of reissuing your pin if it hasn't arrived within 7-10 days. Three weeks is mkore than adequate time to wait, they have to reissue now.

Peachy · 23/02/2009 12:06

we tried that in branch, wouldn't work.

It was the Branch manager said photo ID or no . Orather 'you could come in and we'll think about it but probably you'll have to pay'

As its stillhalf term here I dont want to take all4 out for a stimsession in the bank to be told no

can't you just withdraw money from inside the branch?you don't need ID for that, then take the cash to your DHs bank?

Plus yes they are being idiots not re0issuing your pin!

VibraSlap · 23/02/2009 13:09

I've never heard of being charged for a PIN reminder! Which bank is it?

YANBU

Oh Peachy, what a bunch of twonks. I'd be quite tempted by the idea of marching down there with the kids to teach the fuckers a lesson but I guess that's not really something you want to get into.

Banking ombudsman sounds like a jolly good idea to me. As does one of the personal finance pages in the national newspapers -they all take up cases and it's amazing how quickly big firms respond to the idea of bad publicity.

Bank should also cover any expenses/losses resulting from their fuckwittedness.

Flightattendant27 · 23/02/2009 13:15

Have you got a cheque book? I think you can write a cheque for 'cash' and present it with your card at the bank.

Otherwise call company and explain dilemma - hopefully they will let you pay a bit late.

Seona1973 · 23/02/2009 13:16

they dont want money for the PIN, they are charging it for a Telegraphic Transfer (a same day payment between banks).

you do normally need ID for an over the counter withdrawal (well you did when I worked for a bank).

Call and ask to make a complaint and see if you can get the pin re-issued. Do you have a cheque book as you could make your payment by cheque?

I have never needed a PIN to set up/make an online payment - what bank are you with?

Sparklyblue · 23/02/2009 13:17

Yes, name and shame

EverSOLOlolololoLonely · 23/02/2009 13:22

Bloody ridiculous idiots! I hate banks...No! actually; I HATE BANKS!

lottiebunny · 23/02/2009 15:32

I need a pin for online payments. I'm with the Nationwide. I think Natwest do it now as well. You get this little card machine which you put your card into, type your pin in and then some numbers that the internet banking site gives you. Out pops a code to put back into the website and that verifies that you are who you say you are.

Its to stop phishers I think, they can log into your account but can't set up payments. Of course it means that you can't just log on to internet banking and pay bills if you don't have your little card machine with you.

Seona1973 · 23/02/2009 18:56

i have one of those machines but haven't needed to use it yet as with mine you only need it to set up new beneficiaries and not to make payments to existing ones on your list. I do banking online with natwest and LTSB and they are both totally different. Did you get anything sorted out?

Peachy · 23/02/2009 21:21

Yes, it was the little machine I needed the pin for- new payment. In the end they reissued the PIN but didnt do the transfer- it'snot their afult its the post office you see (even though the card they swore was returned was in an envelope not amrked that in any way).

No cash though, if no advance by Wedsnesday on it DH will sort it but he put a deposit on an old banger a smart car Saturday so would rather not, iyswim.

Thankds for all the advice. DH is with nationwide and I think I might give Nat West the stuff and sign up there eventuially- they are truly useless

Hope you get it sorted.

I have heard about those machines - we bank with Smile (they are fab) and I think they are going to bring in something similar soon.

lottiebunny · 23/02/2009 22:17

Natwest's little machine looks exactly the same as Nationwid's little machine. Not sure whether I can use my Natwest one for Nationwide or vice versa when I eventually and inevitably lose one of them.

Hope you get it all sorted in time.
