Been ttc for over a year now and not really showing much signs of EWCM. I have always been quite dry anyhow.

Any suggestions of what to do? Where to go? What to shove up?

Pre-seed. It's sperm friendly lube. Get it from here

Lulumama · 19/02/2009 12:08

have you thought of going to see your GP?

there are lots of threads on here about TTC, seem to be some interesting ideas about grapefruit juice and cough medicine..

RnR · 19/02/2009 18:14

Thanks to both replies, I have actually used Pre-seed before and have also seen the threads regarding grapefruit juice and cough medicine.

Just fishing for more...

I am wondering whether anyone else out there is also quite dry and finds EWCM minimal if any?

Also waiting on a referral to fertility clinic, there I know I will have people to spk to but would like to be well armed with information and questions.

are you sure you are ovulating?

EWCM is a signpost of impending Ov, so maybe, for whatever reason, you are not

these sorts of tests will be done at the fert clinic, sO I would make sure they do that at the earliest oppo

ScorpiowithabigS · 19/02/2009 19:07

Over a year, you should go and see your GP

some women do not get ewcm at all - some just get milky white cm instead.

AnyFucker · 19/02/2009 19:09

scorpio, she has already been referred to the fertility clinic

Geepers · 19/02/2009 19:11

Have you tried some over-the-counter cough remedies? Apparently they can help improve quality of mucus, Mucinex and Robitussin (not sure on spelling of that one) are ones that I know other people ttc have tried.

AnyFucker · 19/02/2009 19:26

but they are as much use as a chocolate teapot if you are not ovulating

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 19/02/2009 20:07

I never really noticed this before I had DS, either... but he is 14mo now (& conceived without any help) so it wasn't a problem for us, and doesn't necessarily mean you are not ovulating.
Since he was born though, well that's another matter... think it must have had an effect on my hormones or something as I really notice it now!

AnyFucker · 19/02/2009 20:35

no not necessarily montoya

but certainly worth investigating

it was the problem in my case

I had clomid to help me ovulate and eventually had 2 dc, so in most cases is very treatable

with hindsight, I hadn't ovulated for years....

Ashantai · 19/02/2009 21:11

sorry to be thick but whats EWCM?

AnyFucker · 19/02/2009 21:44

egg-white cervical mucous

it is clear, slippery and stretchy and appears for a day or two just before you ovulate

lucysnowe · 20/02/2009 14:21

I'm sure I read somewhere of someone actually trying (chicken) egg white! Not sure if it worked tho...

Longtalljosie · 20/02/2009 15:33

Don't panic - apart from the first month I came off the pill (when we were using condoms to make sure I wasn't pregnant for a really gruelling business trip) I never saw a trace of EWCM. Not once in 4 months of TTC. Am now 15 weeks pg.

Are you using ovulation predictor kits? That might reassure you that you're ovulating...

babyignoramus · 20/02/2009 17:16

Generally I wouldn't worry about the absence of EWCM - I never had any and am now pregnant. In fact my ONLY sign of ovulation was extreme randiness .

Coupled with the length of time you've been TTC though it might indicate that you're not ovulating, and hopefully the fertility clinic will help.

In the meantime my advice would just be to go at it when you feel randy and hopefully that will do the trick!!

RnR · 20/02/2009 21:46

Hi thanks for all the replies and help.

Hey Anyfucker, yes I am ovulating as had a test a while ago.

Hi Geepers, no not yet tried the cough mixture remedy, but not sure how I feel about using them, would it be ok???

Mmmm...yum....choc teapot sounds lush, on a sugar free diet at the moment...chocolate...hmmm....

REALLY Babyignoramus?? I thought that you HAD to have egg white - according to Toni Weschler. But you are pregnant so YAY for you Maybe you had a bit and did not notice it. They do say it reduces as you get older, I am 40 in May soooooooo.....

Thanks again All

Longtalljosie, I am going to use an ovulation test this month as a friends's DP bought one mistaking it for preg tests
I am on my 5th day of my cycle so it will be an interesting month.

I second Pre-seed and a trip to your GP. And lie lie lie about how long you have been trying. If it's a year say 18 months. Hassle them to death.

Longtalljosie · 21/02/2009 09:38

Good for you... You may get through more tests than you expect to in your first month, especially if you're not ovulating quite when you'd expect to. Don't freak if you go for a few days with negative tests - you may have ovulated earlier than you started taking the tests, or you may ovulate late. But once you know roughly when you do ovulate, you'll know to start a day or two ahead of that the next month.

But if it's a year, do go and see your GP as well. My lovely doctor when I told her I'd been trying for three months (in passing, during an unrelated appointment), said to come back after 6 because she'd never seen the point in making people wait for a whole year before starting tests.

OracleInaCoracle · 21/02/2009 09:46

I dont get much EWCM at all and have no probs getting up the duff, however agree that a trip to the doca may help. wouldnt lie about how long youve been trying though. be as honest as possible and be prepared for a LOT of blood tests!

babyignoramus · 21/02/2009 12:35

Yup, really. I'm not that old either (22 when I got pg). I did all the temping and whatnot and there was no indication of ovulation at all. But it must have happened, cos I'm due next week!

Ceilidhgirl · 22/02/2009 01:22

Whatever you do, don't use the gel that sonographers use for scans. It chaffs . Ouch!

Son't some people take cough medicine to try to alter their CM?
