To not want to pay £9.50 to take baby on hols

tegan · 18/02/2009 12:34

I booked a sun holiday when ds was 6 wks old (12 wks now) when booking i could only book for adults and children not infants so he wasn't included. I have now received my confirmation and rang the holiday park to ask if i could hire a cot as i will have a baby, after being to i could upfrade for £75 (not gonna happen) they have asked that i pay £9.50 to take ds and that i will have to pay for extra passes for him when i arrive.

Surely this is taking the piss, ds will be nearly 5 months old when we go, so we won't be doing the entertainment anyway and surely paying £9.50 to take him with us is rediculous.

I feel much better now i have had a rant !!

Why is £9.50 ridiculous?? Ridiculously cheap perhaps..... You asked if you could hire a cot, they have told you there will be a charge of £9.50 for your baby. Seems fair to me. YABU.

cupofteaplease · 18/02/2009 12:38

I'm not sure really...

I'm taking my dds abroad next week and as dd2 is less than 2 years old, she is not allowed a seat of her own. This means she will have to sit on my lap at a cost of £19 each way. I then have to pay £19 each way to take her buggy. But she is not entitled to any baggage allowance, depsite needing clothes for 3 weeks, same as everyone else.

So, although I don't really understand the chages, I guess we all just have to pay them and put up with it!

LynetteScavo · 18/02/2009 12:39

I don't get this.

YOu couldn't' book for him becuse he is an infant, not a child - now the holiday park, which I rather than the people you booked with want an extra £9.50.

You wont' need to pay for anypasses, as you wont' being doing any entertainment, so no extra cost there.

How much has this holiday cost in total?

I'm missing your problem, or is it jsut the 9.50 - if so check what other holiday companies charge for a baby and weep.

Lulumama · 18/02/2009 12:40

he is going on holiday with you regardless of his age, so paying £9.50 does not seem a hige amount

take a travel cot with you

tegan · 18/02/2009 12:42

I have no problem paying a refundable charge for a cot, which i couldn't do anyway.

The money isn't the issue it's the principle that i have a baby who won't be using the facilities and they want £9.50 for the priviledge of taking him.

I've heard of companies charging 50% of the adult price for a baby under one.

I chose not to book with them.

TotalChaos · 18/02/2009 12:46

with the sun holidays - you are getting a whopping discount booking that way, so IMO YABU. if it's Haven you won't need a pass for any child under 5 btw.

tegan · 18/02/2009 12:47

If i was told when i booked the holiday that i would need to pay for him i could of decided whether to book or not but to have paid a deposit and then be told i have to pay is just wrong.

OP posts:
Lulumama · 18/02/2009 12:48

why do you think you should not pay?

will you be using facilities to heat food, bottles, store milk /food, ? will he be in the room by himself whilst you are swimming/walking/ using the otehr facilities

get some perspective

it is £9.50

the price of a couple of fancy coffees and cakes in starbucks

DollyMessiter · 18/02/2009 12:48

If the holiday is really cheap, then the company will be trying to get extra money out of their customers whichever way they can.

The £9.50 is fair enough.

The extra for passes is ridiculous.

Go back to the people you booked it with, and tell them that this company is adding on hidden costs.

Katiestar · 18/02/2009 12:48

I am not sure what you mean by sun holiday. I thought at first you meant 'Sun' Newspaper holidays but you have spelled sun with a small 's'
If you d9o mean a UK holiday then just don't tell them.Take a travel cot and don't get him out of the car when you check in.
If you mean sun holiday as in abroad and you are flying there will be insurances ,tax and admin for every person .
But TBH whatever the situation think quibbling about £9.50 is A bit U

Lulumama · 18/02/2009 12:48

even if you thought he was going for free..... £9.50 is a miniscule amount to pay for another child to come on holiday with you

FAQinglovely · 18/02/2009 12:51

I've never paid a refundable charge for a cot - I've paid and that's been it - no money back at the end of the time of use!!!

I think YABU - it's £9.50 FGS!

loobeylou · 18/02/2009 12:54

well we have booked cottages before now which stated "cot and highchair available" only to discover we had to HIRE these at £20 a week, we had to put up with it or leave DS at home which was obv not happening

less than a tenner on top of what you paid, come on, YAdefBU (but not about the passes)

PeasForTeaAgain · 18/02/2009 12:55

Take it out of his child benefit and tell him to start saving for next year

Tinkerisdead · 18/02/2009 12:57

Tegan, ive also booked a sun holiday and my dd is 12 weeks.(remember you from Nov 08 thread) when i booked mine i declared her as a child of 1 as you say no option for infant but i havent been charged anything extra for her? i havent asked for cot as taking my own but def not been asked to pay extra for her. mine is with parkdean holidays.

tegan · 18/02/2009 12:59

I have booked with park resorts and apparently their policy is every family member regardless of age must be paid for (£9.50), must have passes (£not sure til we get there) and must have linen and service charge paid ( £8 per person)

myfunnynametaken · 18/02/2009 13:00

jesus christ woman, just give em the bloody £9.50.

CoteDAzur · 18/02/2009 13:00

Complaining about £9.50 is a bit strange. It's very cheap.

PeasForTeaAgain · 18/02/2009 13:02

That's insane. I looked at a camper van holiday, but even then you have to pay not onyl to take your camper onto a site, but for each person and extra charge per night, then extra for a pitch with electricity and then extra for this and that.

Its the frustration of not being told upfont that is so annoying. Hope you get it sorted.

Sassybeast · 18/02/2009 13:03

I would think that most holidays charge a nominal amount for infants ? If you can't afford it then don't go surely ?

tegan · 18/02/2009 13:04

Thanks thats what it is frustrating. I desperately want to take the kids away but all the little extras are going to make it impossible when you have budgeted

OP posts:
Eve4Walle · 18/02/2009 13:05

You could have just kept quiet and taken a travel cot. That's what I'd have done...

But it is only £9.50 and in the scheme of things, those holidays are very cheap and good value.
